Twilight Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Joined the SDA church in 1976 from a Catholic background. Took theology from 1978 to 1981 from CUC; worked as a pastor for two years, then joined an independent ministry for four years and worked as a Bible intstructor travelling all over the States and Canada as well; then left that ministry; was rebaptized into the church in 1987 on Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada and in 1990 moved back to CUC where we had our membership transferred; for the next six years or so I worked different jobs (while still very much involved in searching for the 1888 message) and then since 1997 I have been working as a commentator and as a freelance writer about our history and teachings. sky Thank you for sharing that my friend. :-) Quote The best wisdom is always second hand...

BobRyan Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 3rd 4th generation SDA (depending on mother or father's side). My uncle was the editor of "These Times" (he passed away a couple of years ago). Served as an elder since my mid 20's (ordained by H.M.S Richards Senior as a deacon and by Morris Venden as an Elder) back in those days. Software Engineering graduate - been doing that ever since. But I am a member of the "20,000 posts club" on a very large Baptist discussion board -- so I have a lot more time put in on non-SDA boards than SDA boards. I only recently started posting on SDA boards last year after taking a break for 5 years or so. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." BobRyan Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Quote: I am now a member of the 20,000 posts club on a very well published Baptist discussion board as a result of my interest in that kind of open discussion over the years. What was their view of Ernie Knoll. Have not talked to them about Ernie Knoll - but I did mention that thing about Dave Wilkerson's warning earlier this year and the bit from Christianity today about the millions of Muslims including those who were guided by angelic dreams and visions to accept Christianity. BTW - they just love to bring up Ellen White and then imagine every argument under the sun to call her a false prophet, that she was led by the devil or something of the kind. A few of them also like to charge us with "being the cult of Ellen White" and claim that we do not believe in the gift of prophecy -- just the gift of Ellen White as if we thought that one charismatic prophetic leader at the end of time is our "doctrine" on the Spirit of Prophecy. (And of course if you go to some of the ultra conservative SDA discussion boards you just might think that same thing as well). My response to them is that all prophets must first be tested "sola scriptura" to see if their doctrine is in error or not, since they are baptist they will "quickly discover" that Ellen White was not a baptist and that her dreams and visions did not agree doctrinally with some of the Baptist doctrines -- thus their conclusion would need to be "false prophet" until such time as their doctrinal position changes. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." COL 316.
BobRyan Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I enjoy your contributions Bob. :-) Mark Thanks Mark. It has been fun posting on the SDA side of things for a while. Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." COL 316.
LifeHiscost Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 My response to them is that all prophets must first be tested "sola scriptura" to see if their doctrine is in error or not, since they are baptist they will "quickly discover" that Ellen White was not a baptist and that her dreams and visions did not agree doctrinally with some of the Baptist doctrines -- thus their conclusion would need to be "false prophet" until such time as their doctrinal position changes. in Christ, Bob I wonder if anyone was aware of this web page and message? http://www.4hispeople.com/ Website Established 3/4/2007 The 4 His People Ministry Board learned of some very disturbing information the week of July 15. This information has led us to believe that though the dreams appear to be of a supernatural source, we now believe that this source was of Satan. Along with the meetings being cancelled and no future meetings authorized by the board, please know that Ernie and Becky Knoll are suspended from any activity related to the 4 His People Ministry. Please cease contributing funds to this ministry. For those of you who read the testimony and/or received emails from someone going by the name of “Candace”, we were able to determine through tracking email IP information, that Ernie Knoll is “Candace”. When pressed, he admitted to this on July 21 at 2:43pm in a phone call to two ministry board members. We have also determined that the “Great Commission Counsel” is also Ernie Knoll. We sincerely apologize to all who have read and believed these messages. We pray that those whose lives have been affected, including those of us on this ministry team and our families, will find closure. Thankfully, we have a loving Savior in Jesus Christ who is willing to forgive all who come to Him with sincere repentance. While we have concerns about some of the arguments and statements made by those who openly opposed the dreams, we apologize to you specifically. We may at some time in the future ask that you consider the unscriptural positions taken, but it is clearly not appropriate at this time. Please know that all of us involved in this ministry, only ever wanted to serve in the cause of Christ, to win souls for the kingdom. It is our prayer that those who have returned to Jesus, as a result of these messages, will not cast Him aside. While we cannot trust in man’s opinions, we can trust Jesus. Always look to Jesus for light and strength. May He find us ready, when He returns. Quote Lift Jesus up!!
LifeHiscost Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Actually - What I have done is attend Sunday churches while also attending the SDA church - to get informatoin straight from them on what they think -- and also to share with them what Adventists think. in Christ, Bob Some where in the EGW archives the above attitude is recommended by the author of those archives. I just(some time ago) read it and believe it for myself and see no reason to defend the belief. "Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true."Acts 17:11 NIV Blessings! Gustave Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Gustave, Wanted to poke around a bit and get a feel for what is practiced within the denomination. I would be viewing and possibly commenting from a Catholic background. I am a Compliance Officer for a moderate sized company and aside from fishing & pestering my wife my other love seems to be the study of Sacred Scripture and the doctrinal documents of the Historic Christian Church. Now that everyone is now bored this message terminates. Quote
Woody Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Welcome Gustave. It is our honor to have you here. I think that many here have a misconception of the Catholic Church and it's teachings ... or at least what is practiced by those in the church. So, I hope you will feel free to set us straight. BTW ... I do hope you also come with an abundance of 'thick' skin. It just might come in handy. lol Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Gustave Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Thank you both for your warm welcome. Not to worry, my skin is crocodile tough. I'll try to reflect Orthodox teachings and learn some new things at the same time. Quote
