I don’t see where anyone has limited the influence of Ellen White’s ‘continuing and authoritative source of truth which provide for the church comfort, guidance, instruction, and correction to your apparent definition of doctrine. All you have done is restate the FB#18 in your own words with some spurious examples in an attempt to create the false impression of having different levels of inspiration held for her writings. So if the new understanding of ‘many things’ you refer to did not include things like Sabbath observance, Investigative Judgment, health etc. what do you mean by doctrine? By stating ‘I saw’ in reference to the halo around the 4th commandment, did she not instruct a new understanding from their previous practice of Sunday gatherings, to the White Party that remained loyal to James and Her from the followers of William Miller? (For a balanced view of the early history of the SDA church, Google 'sabbath Adventists white party'.) All of Ellen White’s writings and ministry are officially viewed as having Canonical authority for doctrinal interpretation. With SDA’s, it is all doctrinal. Ellen White's ministry is a doctrine so she, personally becomes a doctrine. We have seen where SDA’s on this board and elsewhere have been unable to produce even one instance where Ellen has been found, by the SDA church, to be wrong. The General Conference world assembly, held every 5 years – last in 2005- has, in their last three convocations, passed resolutions affirming the denominations promoted appreciation of and dependence on this manifestation. Never, in any proceedings, will you find any criticism- even from the earliest days of the church, in any official pronouncement. Highly placed individual leaders who dare to question the veracity of any aspect of Ellen’s ministry are quietly (or not so quietly) faded from view. The claim is often made that you do not have to believe in Ellen’s ministry to be accepted as an SDA member. This is a specious statement. Ellen’s ministry is a Fundamental belief and if you do not visibly accept her ministry you will not be allowed to take the first step up the organizational ladder as a local church officer. Keeping your doubts private will allow a passable participation in the activities of the church but public questioning within the SDA culture, of any of the doctrines, will produce a multitude of Ellen quotes in first preference to Bible references and a spiritual ostracism. A live prophet could call down fire from heaven, and even a dead prophet was more powerful than a live king. I think it very wise of the people of our church to tread softly in areas involving Ellen White. If people who think she was a fraud are wrong, they could be in deep trouble for slandering a messenger of God. I certainly agree with you oldsailor. There will be many among those people who would say to Jesus, "Lord, havn't we done this, and havn't we done that in Your name?", that will, when Jesus comes in clouds of glory, cry out to the rocks and the mountains, 'fall on us, and hide us from the face of Christ'. They will then know what it means to be afraid of God. In that day, those professed followers of Jesus would much rather die than face Him. Stewart Quote
