Smilies - How do I turn on the smilies?

Dear Stan & All,

Why am I not seeing smilies within the forum? I see the smilies only in the emails I receive from the forum but not within the adventistforum.com web site. How do I turn them on?

Examples:

1. I don’t see Robert’s smilie in this post.

2. I do see the crying smilie in this post.

3. I don’t see any smilies when I press the smilies button when I am on my New Reply page, i.e. after pressing e.g. the Quote or the Edit buttons under an existing post. Pressing this smiley , which I do not see will result in… an x within a box within another box… and not a smilie.

And yes, so far as I am aware, this has always been so.

Does anyone else have a similar problem?

Shalom,

Tree of Life, do you have a paid subscription or are you simply a registered user?

Dear Gail,

I believe mine is much the same as “a paid subscription,” albeit it has been created under the following offer: “single parents… can ask for free membership?” Or isn’t that so?

I'm not sure how those have been set up, but let me see what I can find out :)

I am not a paying member. I can see the smilies with no problem.

Thanks, Aubrey! That was the first time I'd heard of that one.

Thanks Aubrey,

After going through the Microsoft Support page (except, so far, by contacting MS Customer Support services) I now realize that the problem I am experiencing is only present while having the “Style chooser” near the bottom of the web page set to the “black_and_gold_(hi_res)” option, which is my preference. Using any of the other options available I do indeed see the smilies no problem – at least the one in my first post above within this thread (I haven’t checked the others but assume they’d be the same.)

So, how do I fix the problem with the (hi_res) Style chooser not being able to display my smilies?

Interesting problem! I see now that when I choose the same style setting you do, I cannot see them either. The only difference I can see is that in every other style sheet, the address property of the smilies read: http://clubadventist.com/forum/images/graemlins/default/1syellow1.gif

But in the hi resolution style sheet the address of the smiley reads: http://clubadventist.com/forum/images/graemlins/default_dark/1syellow1.gif

Obviously, something to do with the "_dark" portion of the image address.

I think you're right on the nose with this one, it is definitely a little task for the webmaster. :)

Thanks Stan!

I can hardly believe it... happyhug

And thanks all of you guys and gals who helped bringing this great victory about! - grouphug - All of 92 smilies are now visible in that beautiful Black_and_gold_(hi_res) style that I like so much! [Cf. the box at the bottom of the web page!]

And, to top it all off, you even made this forum available to me once again! Thanks!
