carolaa Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 This is an area that has not been discussed much regarding the Middle East. There is an interesting article in the latest issue (June 2009) of National Geographic about the Arab Christians, with the idea that this group of people needs to be utilized more to help the Western world and the Muslim world understand each other better. These Christians have been living alongside the Muslims for centuries, through wars and peace, and could no doubt share many valuable insights with both sides. Quote

Moderators Nan Posted June 14, 2009 Moderators Posted June 14, 2009 We have a large Lebanese population in Sydney and many are Catholic. Many belong to the Maronite branch of Catholicism, where I think the priests can be married although the bishops are not. Quote
carolaa Posted June 14, 2009 Author Posted June 14, 2009 The National Geographic article talked about the Maronites, which I had never heard of before. Quote
Moderators Nan Posted June 14, 2009 Moderators Posted June 14, 2009 My (work) partner is of that persuasion, I went to a midnight Christmas mass with him once. Not something I would make a habit of , but I enjoyed that one time. Quote
