I usually sleep with a pillow, because it will stay cool and I can keep flipping it over. I get way to hot when I sleep.

Women give off more heat than men. In cold climates, two lovers may sleep next to each other under the same blanket to stay warm. However many cannot sleep all night embracing each other because they toss and turn or their arms may start going numb due to lack of circulation.

During the hot summer or in warm tropical climates most people are not going to want to sleep too close to another warm-blooded person. However our arms extend out and for many it is simply more comfortable to wrap them around a pillow or stuffed animal that is not warm-blooded and producing heat.

I have been sleeping on the couch for the past year, because our bed gives me a bad backache. My husband complained about being cold, even though he had the thermal blanket and comforter. I had only a thin quilt, and was never cold. So I guess you might be right Neil, at least if that's the way you meant it.

Yeah, Suzie gets referred to (by both of us) as my 'hot water wife', 'cos she's always warm. Lovely in winter, less so in summer, but cuddling morning and night is one of the secrets of a happy marriage, IMO. Nothing else I cuddle, though...

Oh, and I do not sleep with anything. I would be annoyed by an intrusion into my space by some inanimate object while trying to sleep.

On the other hand, animate objects aren't too welcome either, like the mouse that climbed up onto my face in the night a week or so ago.

Sure, we will pretend that that is the way he meant it <wink, wink>. But seriously, my dh is always saying that I generate a lot of heat when I go to sleep. Didn't King David have a woman that just warmed his bed? Must have been someone like me.

Sorry, gotta get scientific for a moment. What makes us feel hot or cold is not our actual temperature, but the difference between our temperature and the things around us. It is the sensation of heat flowing out of our bodies that makes us feel cold, and of heat flowing in (or being kept in) that makes us feel warm. So if the woman is a lot warmer (in temperature) than the man, then heat energy will flow from her to him, and he'll feel warm and she'll feel cold. Same with the air or water or whatever.

But they say that men have a higher metabolism than women, and therefore generate more heat. This is what puzzles me about the whole thing.

Not sure. Women generally have more body fat (not a bad thing, it makes the curves) which might insulate them and help them keep the heat they do generate.

I'm always the cold one. My feet are like icicles in winter. Thankfully, Texas winters are not as long as those in the Midwest.

I've read that, when given a choice between biting a man or a woman, a mosquito will go for the man, because a man's skin temperature is warmer - and that is because he has less fat under his skin. Because of that, I have for years chosen to stick close to a man when there are mosquitos about. It seems to work (but if it didn't, I wouldn't admit it)! A man just thinks a woman is warmer than he is, because she's warmer to the touch than the surrounding air.

That's my pseudo-scientific explanation.

That doesn't work for me. They always come after me and leave my husband alone. I sure wish it did though, because I'm allergic to their bites. It is very unpleasant, for a long, long time, for me to get bitten by a mosquito. I'd rather be bitten by a deer fly any time.

Try an adjustable bed with the memory foam mattress.    My wife had an achey back problem, and we tried the select comfort mattress for a few years.    I thought it was great, and it did help her some. But she found that a recliner was more comfortable.    So, after my back surgery, we bought two single adjustable beds, and put them together.    My six weeks of rehab hospital and her comfort in the recliner gave me the idea.    My surgery didn't go well.    Laminectomy compromised the protective sheath surrounding my nerves, and some nerves were damaged.    Anyway, her adjustable bed with the memory foam mattress is just the thing for her maximum comfort.    We always cuddled, and we miss that, but we can usually find a painless position for sleeping.    Our 42nd anniversary is Thursday.

BTW, the mosquitoes that bite are all female, so I've heard.    And I've always thought that's why they bite men more often.

I like to cuddle but I am a cold pillow hugger for the most part. I turn my pillow to get to the cold side all the time :)

Ya know, growing philosophical here, there is a lot here that is foder for the imagination....

Concider that women have a slower metabolim...IOWs, women are cold. From a singles point of view, this may explain why men get rejected alot.

This may also explain the phrase "she's hot"....On second thought, maybe I should not go into this phrase, as I have and have been repremanded for not maintaining family forum values....

But if women were cold, wouldn't they want to cuddle up with someone warmer? The "hot" women would do most of the rejecting, 'cause they are "too hot". So maybe one needs to go after the "cold" woman?
