Woody Posted June 15, 2009 Author Posted June 15, 2009 Never heard of it. How should it be celebrated? I think you are suppose to celebrate it like you would Father's Day except that you don't have to be a father ... just a MAN Are any of you 'man' enough to do that? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Liz Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Happy Man Day!!! To all the men in my life that helps keep me centered and focused and sane, even though sometimes they drive me crazy. You know who you are....<grin> Quote For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Mat. 16:26Please, support the JDRF and help find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. Parade Orange Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 finally recognizing how arduous, taxing, crucial, labored, demanding, prohibitive, wearisome, and intricate to be a man 24/7! I kid you damsels not! Just the other day friends from church and I went to the lake on a fine Sabbath day and there we saw two young men we know sitting on the grass together and their mother (who is a part of our church) said to them 'Why dont you two use that blanket thats in your car?' One of the brothers replied 'That would look so gay!' which means in hetero... We wont look manly! I didnt even think how unmanly it would look for two men to be sharing a blanket on the grass looking for chicks. Its not easy being a man -the world is making sure u do it flawlessly! Quote All progress in the Spiritual Life is knowing and Loving GOD"there is non upon earth that I desire besides YOU" PS 73:25That perspective changes EVERYTHING-suffering and adversity are the means that makes us hungry for GOD. Disapointments will wean us away wordly occupations. Even sin(when repented of) becomes a mechanism to push us closer to HIM as we experience His Love and Forgiveness.
Outta Here Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 In my opinion, sometimes being "manly" isn't such a great idea. What is this world coming to when two biological brothers are so afeared of being labeled less than manly that they cannot even share the comforts of civilization with one another? Sharing a blanket at a picnic is far less intimate than washing one another's feet. I wonder what they'd think about that... Quote

Outta Here Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Absolutely! And in those instances, I think it not too great an idea to be "womanly". Why can't people just be people and leave it at that? Quote
Woody Posted June 17, 2009 Author Posted June 17, 2009 Well, I'm a MAN and proud of it. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
olger Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 I am a man and I am glad that I am. We hold dual citizenship on this planet. I like to shoot things. Drive things. Blow things up. Build things. Break things. We don’t have fun unless there is risk involved. Right guys? Somebody gave me a list. Why we are glad we are men. • Phone conversations are over in 30-seconds flat. • We think military tanks are cool. • A five-day vacation takes only one suitcase. • You can open all your own jars. • Dry cleaners & hair cutters don’t rob you blind. • We can go to the bathroom without a support group. • You don’t have to learn how to spell a new last name. • You can leave the motel bed unmade. • You can kill your own food. (used to anyway..) • You get large amounts of credit for the slightest thoughtfulness. • Wedding plans just seem to take care of themselves • If someone forgets to invite you to something he or she can still be your friend • Your under-ware is $10 for a 3-pack. • Everything on your face stays its original color • You can quietly enjoy a car with a friend – from the passenger seat. • 3-pair of shoes are more than enough. • You don’t have to clean your house if the meter reader is coming. • Car mechanics tell you the truth. • You can quietly watch a ball game with your buddy for hours without thinking “he must be mad at me.” • Gray hair & wrinkles only add character. • Wedding dress - $2000. Tuxedo rental – 75-bucks. • You can drop by and see a friend without having to bring a little gift. • If another guy shows up at a party with the same outfit, you might just become lifelong friends. • Your friends can be trusted to not trap you with “Notice anything different?” • You don’t have to know the names of more than five colors. (What is chartreuse ANYWAY?) • You never have strap problems in public. • We are unable to see wrinkles in our clothes • The same hairstyle lasts for years – maybe even decades. • You don’t have to shave below your neck. • You have one mood all the time. • You never have to drive to another gas station because this ones just too icky. • You can do your nails with a pocket knife. • You have the freedom of choice concerning growing a moustache. • Christmas shopping can be accomplished for 25 relatives, December 24th, in 45 minutes. • The whole world is your urinal I am sincere. I am glad I am a man. You know we are living in an age where the media and advertising are very demeaning to men. There are all goofy, they are insensitive, they are stupid, they don’t have a clue. I believe that is of the devil. I believe that God has ordained that the man should be the priest/leader of their home. The enemy knows that and he has this —“advertising campaign” to not only destroy the image of men in the general but to lower the esteem of men – to almost make men ashamed that they are men. Now it is not that we are without flaws, the weaker sex also has theirs. And God is in the business of changing lives, both man & women. g Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
GreatLakesGramma Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Hmm. In my house it's my husband and son who always ask the "notice anything different?" question. I never do. My husband feels rejected if I don't notice he got his hair cut, which I never do. I just don't pay any attention to what people are wearing or how their hair is. And I don't care if anyone notices what I'm wearing or how my hair is either. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. "To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." -- C. S. Lewis
carolaa Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 I'm just about as bad as you, GLG. But those are good thoughts, Olger. Except that one about guys sitting quietly watching a game - I've never seen that happen. Usually there is lots of hootin' & hollerin'. But guys have it made in lots of ways, for sure. Quote

Woody Posted June 20, 2009 Author Posted June 20, 2009 Go MEN Go ... Three cheers for all the men. At church today all the Fathers got cookies in honor of Father's Day. Go Fathers Go. Yeah for the men. Happy Fathers Day to all you Fathers. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Bravus Posted June 21, 2009 Moderators Posted June 21, 2009 I'm a man, but I live with 3 women (4 if you count the dog) and am pretty comfortable and secure in my masculinity, which means I don't need to talk about it a lot or prove it to anyone. Hey, I got 100% right on the 'Chick Flicks' quiz on Facebook. Quote Truth is important
carolaa Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 I think you've got it right, Bravus. Most women are more attracted to men who are secure in their masculinity than to men who constantly have to prove it. Quote
GreatLakesGramma Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Yesterday, my page-a-day calendar had this quote from Gloria Steinem: Quote: We've begun to raise daughters more like sons... but few have the courage to raise our sons more like our daughters. I don't agree with Ms. Steinem's position on this issue. God made men and women different for a reason. It does not benefit families or society to push us to be more alike. We do more good being what God intended us to be. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. "To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." -- C. S. Lewis
carolaa Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 A person secure in their gender will not be overly concerned about the expectations of others. I think what Gloria Steinem is saying is that we should allow girls and boys to be who they are and be all they can be, without limiting them to the narrow confines of any given culture. What a wonderful gift that is for a child! Little boys should be allowed to play with dolls. They should be taught to have empathy for others. Just as girls should get an education and learn that it is ok to be assertive. And they should all be taught to know and respect and even appreciate the differences between them. Quote
olger Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Yes yes, to GLG from, g Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."

Members phkrause Posted June 22, 2009 Members Posted June 22, 2009 Good post carolaa, I definitely agree with it. As far as Gloria is concerned, I don't know enough about her to comment what she really is saying or trying to imply. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.
