Outta Here Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 If guardian angels can't go into a movie theater, what do they do at the drive-in? And also, if they don't watch movies, and there's an in-flight movie on a plane, does that mean we fly without them? And what about people whose "copilot" is Jesus? Can Jesus go on a plane with an in-flight movie? Quote
Stan Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Looks like they can finally watch the movies then... Quote If you receive benefit to being here please help out with expenses. https://www.paypal.me/clubadventist Administrator of a few websites like https://adventistdating.com
Administrators Gail Posted June 18, 2009 Administrators Posted June 18, 2009 What about in people's homes? Do the angels step out for a break when we pop the DVD in? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Administrators Gail Posted June 18, 2009 Administrators Posted June 18, 2009 Is this sacred ground we are treading upon? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted June 18, 2009 Administrators Posted June 18, 2009 Or just a sacred cow? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Outta Here Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 I dunno if it's sacred or not...just questions I had this morning, pre-breakfast! Quote
Moderators Nan Posted June 18, 2009 Moderators Posted June 18, 2009 I get uncomfortable at any suggestion mocking the role of our guardian angels.....I am sure what is here is only said in fun, but just my thoughts. Quote

Stan Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 When I was becoming an Adventist, I was told that the guardian Angels would not go into the theater with you. It was meant to mock those who claimed that. I remember one person on the old adventist forum, said something about looking for Guardian Angels outside of theaters when he was a kid. Not sure if those thoughts were outside of North America, if not, this would not have any humor. Administrators Gail Posted June 18, 2009 Administrators Posted June 18, 2009 I get uncomfortable at any suggestion mocking the role of our guardian angels.....I am sure what is here is only said in fun, but just my thoughts. I was thinking that when I wrote about whether we were treading on sacred ground or not. Then I wondered whether that was an Adventist superstition. I always wondered if it was the buildings that we were to watch out for or the activities pursued inside. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Moderators Nan Posted June 19, 2009 Moderators Posted June 19, 2009 I certainly did not mean to come across as a holier than thou person in making those comments. The same thoughts are expressed in this part of the world, not just N America. Sometimes the line we walk is a thin one - I was not trying to be judgemental of anyone. I have been guilty of insinuating that the guardian angels of certain car drivers would have to hang on very tightly to the vehicle to keep up with said drivers.....we all have our moments, but I think all of us at heart are very grateful that we have the protection of our angels. Administrators Gail Posted June 19, 2009 Administrators Posted June 19, 2009 A very good thought at that! :) Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Tallmark Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 As a professional actor and someone who became an adventist as an adult, this movie/angel thing is one of the most insane teachings in our church. You can't see a movie at a theater, but it's all right to see it at home, or in flight. And that angels won't go in certain places. Well, I've been to some rough areas, as well as some places that I shouldn't have been, but I know my angels were always there. And so was the Holy Spirit. I've gotten some strange looks from people when I told them I'm a professional film actor. When they finally realized that I worked in LA from time to time, I might as well have told them that I sold crack to elementary students, or ran a brothel. I see no reason why an adventist can't be a movie star. Depends on the kind of movies he or she appears in. Quote
nuff sed Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 Right on, brother.......now the trick is to find those films. Quote
Tallmark Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 I decided to write my own. I have one ready to go. All I have to do is fund it. That's usually the hard part, isn't it? Quote
GreatLakesGramma Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 When you do get it going, be sure to let us know, so we can look for it when it comes out. ChildofChrist Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 I believe this subject would rank up there with the other 'hot potatoes' of our lifestyle. I recall reading in the Spirit of Prophecy, that our baths should be completed prior to the beginning of the Sabbath hours. I have weighed the pros and cons. At the turn of that century, indoor plumbing was rare. Water heaters were part of the kitchen stove etc, I find nothing as refreshing as taking a shower before church. Swimming ranks right up there too. I remember when we moved from Miami to central FL. No a/c and the days would seem to my brain sizzle. Nothing cooled me off faster than a quick shower unless it was to stop at a local springs and wade around. Didn't hurt to pour the water over my head either. We often strain for gnats and swallow the proverbial camel. Folks take a lot of stock in what other people think or whatever. While I think a good reputation is important, Lord knows the content of our hearts. If something is the 'right thing to do' I am not going to care with others think about my intentions. Those without sin, may cast the first stone. Quote Wakan Tanka Kici Un ~~Child of Christ~~
True-believer Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 The only "drive-In" that I know of is the "Drive-Thru" at McDonalds because that is where I have been working full-time for the last eleven years. Quote Luke 4:19To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Members phkrause Posted June 20, 2009 Members Posted June 20, 2009 I think you make a lot of good points ChildOfChrist. Like I've mentioned on many occasions, people just love taking what EGW says out of context and slamming you over the head with it. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. True-believer Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 people just love taking what EGW says out of context and slamming you over the head with it. I am not SDA, but I have never ever taken Ellen G White writings out of context, besides I don't even quote her--I prefer to quote The Bible. Pkrause--you need to rephrase the above comment that you made... because it is not true about me... I have the most respect for this woman you all call a prophet... even though I myself can't say if she is or is not a prophet yet--that isn't important.
