Lovers of acappella music are likely to fall in love with the new album by the Pippers which was launched at the Alisa Hotel at Ridge in Accra last weekend.

The Pippers worship with the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) church and members of the denomination as well as friends and well-wishers turned up in their numbers for the launch of the 10-track Ebenezer album.

The Pippers, previously known as Heavenly Trumpet, came to attention when they took part in the Gangstarz vocal group contest on TV3 last year and placed third.

The group was scaled down to four singers for the competition but the full strength of eight was available last Saturday and they treated guests to tracks from the new album as well their interpretation of works by other composers.

The Asante Hall at Alisa Hotel was turned into a sort of church service as Pastor Isaac Donkor of the Accra West District of the SDA preached a sermon on what constitutes good music in God’s sight.

All the pastors and church elders present came together to pray over the compact discs before they were auctioned to the guests.

Songs on the Ebenezer album are not all acappella but singing without instrumental support seems to be the strong part of the Pippers.

The acappella pieces on the album are Batimeous, Ayeyi Wura, Alone, Akwala Wisua and Ghana. The accompanied pieces are Ye Da Wase, Ebenezer, Amansai, Asen Dua and Akoma.

With both the acappella and the accompanied pieces, the singers deliver with a sense of convinction which demonstrates their love for singing.

Masters of Ceremony, Vashti and Felicia Owusu Ansah as well auctioneer Pastor Gregory Davies did well to involve the audience in the afternoon’s affair.

Guest performers at the launch were Heirs of Kingdom and Isaiah Ampong who implored the public to patronise works by young artistes to enable them expand their talents.
