Key Guy Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 From WPIX, Channel 11 Online http://www.wpix.com/news/local/wpix-church-elder-charged,0,648734.story Quote: CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (WPIX) - A man who police say identified himself as a church elder from a Patchogue church was arrested and charged Sunday after he attempted to pay a 13-year-old boy for sex. Police say Rosemberg Berrios, 42, of Central Islip was sitting in his white Kia parked in a lot outside a 7-11 convenience store on Suffolk Avenue at around 7:45 p.m. Berrios called the teenager over to his car and engaged him in a conversation. At some point, while the two were talking, the suspect offered the boy money in exchange to have sex with him. The 13-year-old declined and rode off on his bicycle. Authorities say the boy called police after he took down the description of the suspect's car and the license plate number. Police were able to track Berrios down, and arrested him a few hours later. Berrios told police he was a church elder at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Patchogue. He was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and patronizing a prostitute. He is expected to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip Monday. (photo online) Quote
Members phkrause Posted June 23, 2009 Members Posted June 23, 2009 As soon as I saw the WPIX letters I knew the story had to be from NY, having been raised and living there for some 25 years. The rest of the story is very sad. And again a SDA in the news. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Parade Orange Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 i wonder how the church will minister to the elder Quote All progress in the Spiritual Life is knowing and Loving GOD"there is non upon earth that I desire besides YOU" PS 73:25That perspective changes EVERYTHING-suffering and adversity are the means that makes us hungry for GOD. Moderators John317 Posted July 9, 2009 Moderators Posted July 9, 2009 Yeah, the paper makes it sound like we can be sure he is guilty, but I don't see how. Maybe he confessed. I can see how that situation could arise on the basis of a false accusation. Wouldn't be the first time. I hope that's not the case here. But if he's guilty, he needs a lot of help, counseling, and prayer. And if he's innocent, he still needs lots of help. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Well, I appreciate that these kinds of posts are here. It shows us that even SDAs are not exempt from sin. There are some that have the idea that because you are SDA ... that you are expected not to sin. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Parade Orange Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 expectant not to sin is something i have seen all my life but Something more troubling is going on. Wearing masks and feeling so alone even in your church. They cant reach out cause its a purly arms length religion.
