olger Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I am installing a terrazzo finish on the garage floor - 936 ft². Scarify/grind surface with diamond grinder. (last week) Prime with 2-part epoxy primer. (last week) Coat with 2-part epoxy coating. Last week scatter/embed paint chips into floor at saturation point. Thursday sweep off excess chips next morning Friday scrape flat (any raised chips (Sunday) apply RexThane aliphatic urethane high-gloss coating. (Monday) heal any thin chip areas with more chips and top coat with rexThane (Tuesday) back roll heavy coat of rexthane onto surface. Today place hands on hips and ask "How in the world did those 5 stupid killdeere get stuck in the floor? Get glove pull/peel young killdeere off of sticky/partially cured Rexthane fling them out into the field disgustedly, while wondering how to get feathers out of 10-mils of aliphatic RexThane shoot mother killdeere with 12-gauge when she came back towards the garage to scold me - made things more quiet too. wait for RexThane to dry... I'll keep you posted... The start. Newly primed Adding base coat & color chips Getting there... Looking good Dumb birds.. g Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
olger Posted July 9, 2009 Author Posted July 9, 2009 No way. Aliphatic urethane smells like a cross between the chemical dump at Chernobyl, and a 300-pound gorilla armpit. And that's the good side of it. g Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Amelia Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Well there is a large simularity 'tween your floor and a Killdeer egg. So, how many babies perished on this flypaper? olger Posted July 9, 2009 Author Posted July 9, 2009 Well there is a large simularity 'tween your floor and a Killdeer egg. So, how many babies perished on this flypaper? You may have something there Amelia-rr. Casualty tally = Miami County saw their net Killdeere population decline by six. None of it was friendly fire. I have another coat to put on today and I'll keep my trusty shotgun nearby - so the tally could improve - we'll see. g Ps. Stupid birds.. Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Administrators Gail Posted July 9, 2009 Administrators Posted July 9, 2009 I was hoping to see a pic of them stuck in the goo... Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted July 9, 2009 Administrators Posted July 9, 2009 I had to re-read that. It just seems way too bizarre... Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

olger Posted July 10, 2009 Author Posted July 10, 2009 HEY OLGER why try to kill the birds can you just scare them away dgrimm60 Happy to report that the final coat went down with no more mishaps. I have no idea what motivated the dumb birds to get in the goo the first time. Wierdest thing I've seen all month. Perhaps Algore can explain it g Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
olger Posted July 10, 2009 Author Posted July 10, 2009 I had to re-read that. It just seems way too bizarre... I thought so too. Never seen anything like it. Imagine pouring tolulene or xylene all over your garage floor and having a parade of baby ducks march right into it. The nostril-searing odor alone would keep me out if I was a dumb bird. I wonder if the mother led them into it and then got herself free? I briefly considered taking a picture, but was more interested in getting them out of the urethane at the time.. g Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
olger Posted July 10, 2009 Author Posted July 10, 2009 IT'S DONE. yeehaw Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
olger Posted July 10, 2009 Author Posted July 10, 2009 Yo doug. I ain't gonna git in no argument about the relative intellectual merits of winged bipedal endothermic vertebrates that walk stupidly into their death. Morons.. Lemmings.. Goosecaps.. "So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows" (Matthew 10:31). Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Administrators Gail Posted July 10, 2009 Administrators Posted July 10, 2009 OH the tales a floor could tell... Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
GreatLakesGramma Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Did you get all the feathers out? Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. "To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." -- C. S. Lewis
olger Posted July 11, 2009 Author Posted July 11, 2009 Well Gramm, I sanded the spots with 100-grit for a while and then decided that it was good enough. Left the rest in there for a conversation piece. "Hey. I ever tell you about the time I was installing this floor...?" g Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
True-believer Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 "Hey. I ever tell you about the time I was installing this floor...?"g Sounds interesting olger Quote Luke 4:19To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
True-believer Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 OH the tales a floor could tell... I don't know... but can floors tell tales? I didn't think they could speak!!! but even though donkey's can speak ----in the old testament--- I didn't think that floors could speak or tell tales??? What are anybody else's thoughts on this??? Quote Luke 4:19To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
