MARION - The Bellefontaine Avenue Neighborhood Association is looking for people with talent.

The second annual TheBANA Neighborhood Picnic will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 9 at 540 Windsor St., the lawn of the Seventh-day Adventist Church at Bellefontaine Avenue and Windsor Street, a news release states.

Featured will be a talent contest, which will begin at 5:45 p.m. Pre-registration to compete is required. Entries should be mailed to The Bellefontaine Avenue Neighborhood Association, or TheBANA in care of Nick Clarke, 369 Bellefontaine Ave., Marion, OH 43302. Include a brief description of age, talent and a contact phone number. Any talent is welcomed.

Contest categories are ages 10 years and younger, 11 to 16, and 17 and older.

The event will include musical entertainment, cake walks, a K-9 Corps by the police department, fire truck demonstration by the fire department and a karaoke contest.

Other activities include face painting, health wellness, corn toss, child identification and an inflatable castle. Refreshments including hot dogs, popcorn, ice cream, bottled water, coffee and chips, which will be free to attendees.

Those attending are asked to bring a nonperishable food item, which will be donated to a local food pantry.

I just hope that the deacons have already made up a battle-plan to deal with the debris/cleanup afterward. While I applaud the intentions I do hope that the church is prepared for the aftermath. As Dr. Laura says frequently, "No good deed goes unpunished."
