Sin nature: Bent or driven?

Some people like to define the sinful nature as simply a nature that is bent towards sinning. I would like to go one step further. A sinful nature is a nature that enjoys sinning. What we don’t enjoy is being caught.

Coming to church today a car that was coming in the opposite direction flashed the lights. Now we have an agreement in our area that when you flash the lights it means there is a cop around the corner. And sure enough there were two policemen waiting. Guess what? I kept to the speed limit.

Now when I break the speed limit and the policeman catches me and I apologize, I say “officer, I was late for a funeral or a wedding or some appointment”. I am not apologizing or confessing my fault because I love the policeman or the traffic law of this country. It’s is because I love myself and my pocketbook. [JS]

Sin is sin, but...the converted man's mind/heart doesn't enjoy sin, but his nature is bent to self, meaning that the nature is concerned with one person - itself. Hence the nature is constantly trying to position itself for number one position.

The thing is if we give those desires to the HS we can then experience genuine deliverance from its lust. Problem is somedays the bear gets us and somedays, through the HS, it gets the bear...and so we struggle, but not to get into heaven because "in Christ" that issue is done with....If we have Christ we have heaven....
