Members phkrause Posted August 8, 2009 Members Posted August 8, 2009 My drinking water has nothing to do with being an Adventist, has to do with health. When I stopped drinking soda and started drinking water I lost a lot of weight. Never really liked water, but now that's all I like. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
GreatLakesGramma Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Same for me. When are people ever going to GET IT that some Adventists just want to be healthy, no matter what it takes? I have had to go WAY beyond the Adventist health message to find the right diet for myself. And actually, I never in my life, before Adventism or since, could stand the taste of coffee, tea, colas, or alcoholic drinks. I used to like root beer floats, but they don't even taste good to me anymore. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. "To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." -- C. S. Lewis
Dr. Shane Posted August 8, 2009 Author Posted August 8, 2009 None of my choices are there: water, freshly made vegetable juice, or a smoothie. The fruit shake and a smoothie are the same thing. Just different lingo. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity

Dottie Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 You asked what I would like--lemonade. Mostly vecause it's been years since I've had any. All I drink now is water, and 3T. of pomegranate juice each day. Quote

GreatLakesGramma Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 A smoothie is not the same as a shake. Shakes have milk in them, smoothies usually don't. Unless they are different down there than they are here. That would be no big surprise. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. Dr. Shane Posted August 8, 2009 Author Posted August 8, 2009 Ahhhh, I am the one that made the poll. Like I said, it is just different lingo. Let me give the recipe for a banana shake South Texas style. Put a banana in a blender with some ice cubes and sugar or sugar substitute. Blend it all up and we have a banana shake. This can also be done with mango, strawberries, coconut, pineapple, papaya, watermelon, cantaloupe and many other fruits. In southern Texas, these are call fruit shakes when English is spoken. Most often they are called purees, which is a Spanish word. My wife makes these for us all the time. Currently we have been hitting temperatures above 100º F for over 30 consecutive days. Dr. Shane Posted August 8, 2009 Author Posted August 8, 2009 Watermelon is one of our staple crops down here so the watermelon purees is quite popular. These are sold on the street a lot too in little shacks in the corner of parking lots. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity

GreatLakesGramma Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Shane, I never add sweetener to my smoothies. That sounds sickening to me, as I hate the taste of sugar. Sometimes fruit-only smoothies are too sweet already, for my taste. Still, the only thing I ever drink when I am thirsty is water. I don't consider smoothies so much a drink as a meal, and I make vegetable juice, of greens and carrots, only to detox. It makes me more thirsty. It might be a good idea to put "other" on polls like this. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26.
