Finite still means finite, though. There are good points in that article, therebuster, and they may all combine to shift the peak some considerable distance into the future - maybe a few decades, maybe even a century. But the point that it's a finite resource (and, as fccool notes, a massively convenient one that will be extremely hard to replace) remains, and the point that it's more prudent to make slow and steady moves to other sources while we still have plenty, rather than waiting until we have none and then panicking, is just common sense.

There is a site online that lists 100 things you can make yourself. One of the items is how to make your own solar panels. That page then links to a page with a set of DVDs that also show how to make a wind turbine, and how to make and wire the whole system for using them.

The DVD set costs 49.97, but I'm planning to look for some books with the same information, then borrowing them through the statewide library system.
