Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted August 24, 2009 Administrators Posted August 24, 2009 Two questions looking at two sides of the same coin. Our salvation/righteousness is by faith. Jesus said if we have even tiny faith (like a tiny seed) great things are possible, like moving mountains, healing the sick, etc. If our salvation is from faith, does it require a larger portion of faith than what Jesus was talking about? What percentage of salvation is the result of faith? Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
oldsailor29 Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I would guess 100% of salvation is by faith. But I know there are some who believe otherwise. Quote Prs God, frm whm blssngs flw http://www.zoelifestyle.com/jmccall

Guest Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. Rom 1:17 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. Gal 3:11 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. Hbr 10:38 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. Rom 12:3 Quote

wayfinder Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 John 12:44-50 And Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me. "He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me. "I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness. "If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. "He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day. "For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. "I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me." Learn the teaching of the Son of God for it is the teaching of the Father and it determines our eternal life! Quote
skyblue888 Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 100% and here is why: "In the work of God humanity can originate nothing. No man can by his own effort make himself a light bearer for God." C.O.L. 418. "Christ's righteousness accomplishes everything." F.W.27. "The Lord Jesus imparts all the powers, all the grace, all the penitence, all the inclination, all the pardon of sins in presenting His righteousness for man to grasp by living faith." F.W.24. "Living faith is essential for our salvation that we should lay hold upon the merits of the blood of a crucified and risen Saviour, upon Christ our rigthteousness." F.W.64. "Well then, what is our position? It must be a postion of living faith. 'I want,' says one, 'to reason out this matter.' Well, reason it out if you can. 'The wind bloweth where it listeth. And you know the sound thereof, but you cannot explain it. And no more can you explain the things of God upon the human heart. You cannot explain this faith that lays right hold upon the merits of the blood of a crucified and risen Saviour to bring Christ's righteousness into your life. Clothed with the righteousness of Christ and not your own righteousness, you will not depend upon what you can do or what you will do. Don't you know you cannot do anything without Christ? 'Without Me,' He says, 'ye can do nothing.'" F.W.65. These statements not only tell us that the righteousness of Christ accomplishes everything but they also tell us how it is brought into the life, by laying right hold upon the merits of His sacrifice. We lay hold upon the merits of Christ's shed blood by claiming them. When we do this, from day to day, the soul makes progress, from grace to grace, from light to a greater light, and from victory to victory. Thus "Not one who trusts in His merits will be left to perish." P.P.432,203. sky Quote "The merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to present to the Father in our behalf." S.C.36.
wayfinder Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Is there something wrong with the words of the Son of God, which are the words of the Father? The Son of God did not say faith is 100%, in fact He doesn't even mention faith. Quote
wayfinder Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Did you read my post? John 12:44-50. It doesn't say "salvation", but it does say eternal life. I see eternal life as the goal of salvation. Quote
jasd Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 QR frame: Does not Writ advise us that it is Gd who giveth the increase? It is He who gives; it is not of ourselves. I see on these threads faith (without first having denoted between the faith of Jesus Christ or our own faith) treated as a thing self-generated. If it is so, then [vernacular] faith is works; meaning that, we effect our own salvation through Jesus Christ... Matt 22:10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. Note: the phrase “both bad and good”. When does the wedding feast occur? pre or post Parousia? If ‘post’, then the words of Jesus Christ seem to indicate that the ‘imperfect/bad’ sits at the table of celebration, yes? So, how relevant would ‘probation’ then be? The parable indicates that the garment worn at the feast would have proved the man acceptable to remain, yes? So, does the garment represent works? faith in Jesus Christ? faith of Jesus Christ? Jesus Christ’s righteousness? What? Note also that: Gd called the man sans garment, friend – though yet having him cast in outer darkness. Outer darkness? no immolation in a lake of fire? Whazzup? Lastly, Writ states that Jesus Christ was not made perfect until He died. Quote
skyblue888 Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 There is no merit in faith whereby salvation is merited but faith can lay hold of the merits of Christ, the 100% remedy provided for sin for it brings the righteousness of Christ into the life and it accomplishes everything. "The law of the human and divine action makes the receiver a laborer together with God. It brings man where he can, united to Divinity, work the works of God. Humanity touches humanity. Divine power and the human agency combined will be a complete success, for Christ's righteousness accomplishes everything." F.W.27. sky Jesus said, "When the Son of Man cometh, will He find faith on the earth?" And when the Roman officer said to Him, "Lord speak the word only and my servant shall be healed." It is said that Jesus marveled at him, and that He turned around and said to the crowd around that followed Him, "I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel." Luke 7:7-9. Quote "The merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to present to the Father in our behalf." S.C.36.
skyblue888 Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Did you read my post? John 12:44-50. It doesn't say "salvation", but it does say eternal life. I see eternal life as the goal of salvation. Eternal life is not something to be obtained at some future time. In Christ is eternal life and this is the treasure that we, through our connection with Him, are to receive, to reveal, and to impart. Eternal life is everlasting righteousness and this we obtain through faith in Christ's merits here and now. "Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." 2 Cor.6:2. "It is through the Spirit that Christ dwells in us. And the Spirit of God, received into the heart by faith, is the beginning of eternal life." D.A.388. "There is salvation for you but only through the merits of Jesus Christ. The grace of the Holy Spirit has been offered to you again and again." jasd Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Heb 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; Heb 5:9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; The antecedent of “being made perfect” is “he suffered”, which would have included ‘dying’... Guest Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 That in no way says that he wasn't perfect until he died. Quote
jasd Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Say what!? -Pogo What does "being made perfect" say - linguistically? Don't neglect to parse the clause "he became the author of eternal salvation". Quote
jasd Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Seems to me that you're fixated upon Jesus/Gd as always/eternally perfect - and missing the Bibilical concept of His having to fulfill His sphere of earthly perfection - to qualify as the [legally] perfect Redemptor/Saviour - of mankind. That perfection occurred only upon His having fulfilled the requirement of dying [a perfect sacrifice]. So yes, He was made perfect in death - according to Writ - specifically, by the author of the book of Hebrews. Quote
