mikeyswen79 Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 I am impressed with the fact that there are sucha wide variety of Adventist channels available via satellite. However, satellite has such a tremendous disadvantage being that it is easily effected by bad weather. Rain alone seems to take 3ABN for me here in Berrien. For this reason, I was wondering if there is Adventist cable available? I like how the satellite has ALL the Adventist channels and therefore would like the same package through cable. I realize that Hope TV, for instance, is on DirecTV but since that's only one of the channels I'm not so interested. P.S. I realize this topic could belong elsewhere but all of the forums related to this were channel specific so I thought I should post this here. I guess the Adventist channels I have in mind are: - 3ABN and all its related parts - Hope TV and all its related parts - LLBN - The Adventist Channel (does that still exist?) - I know there are more out there, but I basically would like to receive all the channels that are available on the Satellite (Glorystar or just the Adventist satellite) via cable. Your help is appreciated! Quote
SivartM Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 I have nothing to say about cable, but I'm pretty sure the Adventist Channel still exists because they had a booth at the Oshkosh camporee. I think you can watch most channels online these days though. Quote "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much." - Oscar WildeDo to others whatever you would like them to do to you. CyberGuy Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 You can get a satellite from 3ABN or Hope Channel and they will come out and install a Dish so you can receive 7 Channels in all. 1. English 3ABN 2. Spanish 3ABN 3. Spanish Hope 4. English Hope CHannel 5. Foreighn language Hope Channel 6. Foreighn Language Hope Channel 7. LLBN THey work it so you swich your main cable to Channel 3 or 60 then press a button and it switches to the Adventist TV satellite. TO switch to regular satellite you switch the TV to channel 3 or 60 and press a button and you are on regular satellite. I do this all the time and it works great. I have never had bad weather affect my satellite dish. Although I am told that hail towards the Southeast where the dish points will affect reception. I am told also that heavy rain will do the same but I have not had that affect reception yet. Basically you have to be dead center in the reception range. If you are in the fringe reception range that will happen. Try moving the satellite a fraction higher or lower and that should fix it. It did with me when LLBN went out for me. Quote Riverside CA
Dr. Shane Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 I prefer satellite because it is free. MOIPTV is good for people that live outside the footprint of a satellite or live in condo, apartments or other areas where they cannot have a satellite. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... GreatLakesGramma Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 We have the Adventist Satellite dish that belonged to my father in law. It gets Hope, 3ABN, LLBN, and 3 Spanish channels. But when we tried to watch the latest Voice of Prophecy Family Reunion concert in May, we got no signal on any of the channels. When I checked again several days later, there was still no signal. Could it have been weather conditions? Nobody has tried it again since then. It has been so many years since we watched TV, nobody even thinks of it, unless there is something special we hear about that we would like to see. Dr. Shane Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 These dishes are Ku band dishes so they are very sensative. The Ku band is a much weaker signal than than the DBS systems like DISH Network and DirecTV. So the slightest movement of the dish can cause a loss in signal. One can try to adjust it themselves or call a tech. Go to this web address >>> http://ftainstall.com <<< to find a tech near you. That is one of the benefits of having MOIPTV. The dish never needs to be adjusted but there are monthly fees. I had to have my dish adjusted after Hurricane Dolly. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... fccool Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I work in broadcast industry, and I love all of the satellite bashing by the cable companies. The reason that I find it ironic... is due to the fact that the cable companies themselves are getting their programming through satellite to relay it via cable. Nevertheless, the cable companies will likely carry you if your viewership is substantial. Unfortunately, the total number of Adventist that watch the 3ABN programming in given area does not justify adding channel. There's been a push in our church to campaign for adding 3ABN to local cable, and I don't think it went over too well... not went over at all. I think we need to: 1) Diversify the programming to create more channels than 3ABN alone... I respect 3ABN's efforts, but let's face it... the programming that it puts out has a target audience with average age of 40-50. 2) Focus on the message, and not on the identity. I think there's much pride flying around the Adventist identity that needs to be properly sublimated into humble message presentation in more modes than re-broadcasting "talking heads giving the sermons". Television is a visual medium, and today we are really competing for attention. We don't have to create VFX spectacles (low budget VFX productions end up looking cheezy), but there are hardly any place for the storytelling medium and dramatic presentation. Need more of showing, and less of telling. Like my visual communications professor once noted: "If I can turn off the picture and get the same results from a television show or a movie... it should be properly placed as a radio broadcast" Quote
Neil D Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 personally, I think 3ABN is cheesey anyways...but who am I to judge that.... The principle, when feeding, is to take the best that the land has to offer.... And EGW counsels not to eat cheese nor cheese products....That should leave 3ABN out..... Woody Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Some here Neil .... do not find it "cheesey". And while 3ABN is still alive .... it is not nice to talk bad about that which others like. Neil D Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Geese louise, Redwood....Did you get up on the wrong side of the bed? I said that it was "my personal opinion"...and I also said "But who am I to judge?"...Just because I was a religious actor, a religious drama director, developed a non-profit drama company doesn't mean that my opinon doesn't count. And if it does, it is only ONE voice in a whole sea of others..... Dr. Shane Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Just because I was a religious actor, a religious drama director, developed a non-profit drama company... You may want to contact the Hope Channel to see if you can help out with something. I know that they have expressed interest to Ed Dickerson about making his book, "Grounds For Belief" into a mini series. I think that could be done with some academy or college drama department without a whole lot of expense. If you haven't read the book, get it and see what you think. Our networks have a lot of good programming. Some may feel there is too much "dry" preaching on them. And there is a bit of that but there is also a lot of other programing that is great. Our networks need good programming and many churches have demonstrated that it doesn't take too much money to produce good programming. It takes more talent than money. In the secular society that we live in, there are more and more unchurched people we need to reach. These people can be reached through the arts. Drama, comedy and music are all art forms we can employ with our networks to reach the unchurched. Hope Channel has been doing some of this since their beginning. 3ABN is a bit more traditional but is targeting a different segment of unbelievers. Both channels are good. About all I watch on TV is either news channels or Adventist media. It has made a big difference in my spiritual life and I cannot speak highly enough about it. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Members phkrause Posted August 30, 2009 Members Posted August 30, 2009 Neil I love 3ABN, I think there great. I watch Abundant Living, Lets Cook Together, Discover w/David Assherick, Revelation Insights, Body&Spirit, White Horse Media w/Steve Wohlberg, It Is Written, Digging In the Past, Celebrating Life in Recovery w/Cheri Peters. I don't think they are cheesy at all. There are some shows that I don't particulariy like, but are really good. Since I don't have or get LLBN & the Hope Channel I can't speak for them. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Kountzer Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Adventist TV channels are on some cable networks. As it has been pointed out, it depends on the demand. You would think that the cable provider would have adventist channels in the area of Berrien Spirngs/battle creek. Adventist tv is on cable in Keene, Tx. Surely they can do it in Berrien Springs, Mi.
