Levitical Meat Laws and SOP - in agreement?

Recommended Posts

Many argue that whilst the SOP calls us to a vegetarian diet, that disagrees with the biblical counsel.

But does it really?

-------------------------

Consider this:

The meat restrictions applied in the OT times are in full accord with the SOP position.

The Levitical laws forbade the eating of unclean meat.

Only certain meats were clean.

And "clean meats" not prepared in the right way, or having undergone certain "contamination" was considered unclean.

In the SOP it is clearly stated that meat would become unhealthy in the end times, because of lack of animal care and farming methods.

In the OT restrictions, you will find that any meat that is made unclean, is not suitable for consumption.

In the SOP restrictions, you will find that at the end times nearly all meat will be unclean and therefore not suitable for consumption.

The only way you could avoid this in modern times is if you followed the requirement to drain the blood and remove the fat from the clean animals.

So unless you are using a Organic Free Range Hallal or Jewish butcher, I would state you are not safe to eat the meat on offer...

It is unclean...

According to the Levitical Health Laws and the SOP...

Your thoughts?

For instance I was shopping recently for some chicken for my Father and Mother in laws.

When I looked at the packets, one packet said:

Fed on a vegetarian diet.

So I looked at the other chicken that did not have this "proclamation" and my question was:

"So what were they fed on?"

-------------------

I was then watching a programme on the state of food production and chicken once again was being discussed.

Chicken breast sold in the supermarkets is often pumped full of water to increase the size of the chicken breast, to twice its size.

Now the problem is, that water pumped in, just seeps back out.

So it has to be held in with proteins.

"Proteins", what type of "proteins"?

Animal proteins seems to be the protein of choice.

But which animal?

Sometimes chicken, but sometimes "pork" protein.

Chicken with "pork" protein?

Clean or unclean?

--------------------------

So we see that the SOP was once again spot on in its prediction and God is trying to save us from our own appetites...

The meat on sale is no longer clean according to the Levitical Health Laws and the SOP.

They are completely in agreement.

Thank you Mark for this information. Appreciated. The SOP also tells us that the diseases in animals will be proportionate to the increase in the transgression of the law of God among men. The curse is upon man and beast in these last days for the law of God is trampled upon like never before.

I enjoyed it at the academy. Once I left there though I began eating meat again. Now I'm trying to figure out where to even begin as a vegetarian.

Take a look at Deuteronomy 14:21b. Do you believe that such is in full accord with the position of EGW? Do you beleive that such is not suitable for consumption today.

NOTE: Jewish people understand Deut. 14:21b to prohibit cooking any kind of flesh food in any utensil in which a food that contained a milk product had been cooked. They did not limit the prohibition to cooking an animal in the milk of its mother.

One thing to recognize is that the converse of a prohibition is a permission. So, are you telling us that EGW is in perfect agreement with the OT permissions that are the converse of the prohibitions? Would you say that EGW was in perfect agreement that people may eat crickets---see Lev. 11:22? If you say so, please support your belief with a statement from EGWs writings.

I have to laugh at some of my "good Seventh-day Adventist friends" who think that they are quite OK with eating of flesh foods. "None of them" eat it according to Biblical principles. If you will try to find the "long out of print" Bible Handbook (1919) by S.N. Haskell you would find the following on page 154, 1 Sam. 2:12-16 "priests could eat only sodden flesh,--flesh that had been boiled until the blood was extracted from it. The priests that were 'the sons of Belial', wished raw flesh that could be roasted with the blood, thus giving flavor to the flesh " Tv.6,p.327,v.9, pp.163,164 "There are many at the present day, who, like the sons of Eli, prefer flesh cooked in a manner to retain the blood. Very little flesh would be eaten if God's requirements were followed. The blood gives flavor. Flesh sodden (put over the fire and cooked slowly) is almost tasteless.

There is a whole lot more but I won't write it all down just now..

Gladussee: You are correct.

From that perspective and looking at the statement to the effect that the OT laws were 100 % in line with the SOP. I do not think so. EGW advocated a vegetarian diet (vegan perhaps). However, she never advocated the preparation of flesh foods in the manner prescribed by the ancient laws. She never made any kind of an issue over what you have just brough up.

Was the SOP in 100 % harmony with the ancient laws? I do not think so.

NOTE: I am a vegetarian and somewhat strict.

The point is this, unclean meat should never be consumed.

Ellen White pointed out that clean meat would be practically non-existant in the end times, therefore meat should not be consumed.

So the two principles are in harmony.

As to the eating of locusts, I do not know enough on the subject to comment. :-)

I think that we should always strive for the "ideal' in that which we do. The "ideal" is simply this: Are we looking for translation or not"?

It's very simple. If we are, we will quit eating flesh foods. End of discussion.

I was raised a vegetarian and after 45 years it was very difficult to change to a real diet of meat but I have been successful. Now I understand what Paul meant when he said those weak in faith only eat vegetables, for nothing I eat can defile me.

"You may not agree with everyone. But if you are an honest man, when someone says something you disagree with it’ll drive you to the Word. If you find out that you were wrong and change your thinking then you are the better for it. If you go to the Word and find out that you were right then you have been strengthened. But either way always go to the Word!!” Billye Brim

Hmm, so Haskell proposes that the “priest” did not partake of the roasted Paschal lamb/goat...? further, somehow he also has ‘discovered’

that the “sodden” flesh taken from its seething was not done randomly but only that the most sodden was searched-for and extracted for consumption...?

Having eaten quite a bit of that bleedin’ boiled foods offered in British restaurants – I sympathize with the priests awaiting Pasch – that they might partake roasted flesh. bwink

>>Are we looking for translation or not"?

Help! having done a Bible search – I admit that I failed finding confirmation for the above statement. Is that anywhere found in Holy Writ? Otherwise, I instead found that

all foods will be near non-existent. So, there’s that angle, I suppose...

Wasn't it that great thinker the Earl of Lancashire who said that it was not what man ingested and expelled that defiled; rather, it was that which sprung from his heart and lips uttered - that defiled?

He was no doubt quoting a much earlier source and One of much higher pedigree...

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

*Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth.

(And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
