Detroit tries peddling produce like ice cream

Quote:
Experts call Detroit a food desert: More than half of its residents must travel at least twice as far to reach the nearest grocery store as they do to a fast-food restaurant or convenience store. Many shop at liquor stores and corner markets that carry few, if any, fresh fruits and vegetables.

That's interesting Amelia. When I first moved up to Lancaster, MA there was this guy that used to come around all the time, selling fresh produce, from his van. So this haas been done before.

When I was traveling the UK, I saw lots of mini lorries in the smaller villages doing the same thing. Though almost all the little "catch all" shops offered bananas and apples.

Where my husband was working yesterday, an Amish man set up his things to sell produce on the corner. So husband bought peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, peaches, and a small watermelon.

That's awesome. I didn't know the Amish did that.

They do it all the time around here, where they are scattered throughout the rural community. They may sell at the farmers' markets too, but I haven't been to the local one, so I don't know if they do. They do in PA.

Yes, if I lived in the city I'd partake. I think it's WAY better than the ice-cream man!
