Lutz13 Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 "pray without ceasing"(1 Thessalonians 5:17) How do you think we are to go about doing that? Quote
Members phkrause Posted September 5, 2009 Members Posted September 5, 2009 I think that that means to be in communication with God all the time. I don't believe it means to be on our knees. Just talking with him. I wonder if that is what Enoch did constently speaking with and about God? pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Woody Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 Quote: “I have received letters questioning me in regard to the proper attitude to be taken by a person offering prayer to the Sovereign of the universe. Where have our brethren obtained the idea that they should stand upon their feet when praying to God? One who has been educated for about five years in Battle Creek was asked to lead in prayer before Sister White should speak to the people. But as I beheld him standing upright upon his feet while his lips were about to open in prayer to God, my soul was stirred within me to give him an open rebuke. Calling him by name, I said, "Get down upon your knees." This is the proper position always.” {2 Selected Messages 311} Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Moderators Gerr Posted September 5, 2009 Moderators Posted September 5, 2009 So if we are to pray without ceasing, we need to be on our knees 24/7? Quote
Woody Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 So if we are to pray without ceasing, we need to be on our knees 24/7? Ouch. That don't sound pratical nor comfortable to me. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
jasd Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 QR frame: I’ve had my pound hound for 17 years. Yes, he’s on his last leg – ready to go ahead of me – to put in a good word, as it were. Anyway, he’s had a severe and continuous cough with nothing proving efficacious. He became so exhausted (and I’m certain his throat must also have been stripped raw) he could only lay on his side – cough and pant. Of course I prayed – what might be considered continuously. Nothing, nada, zip... Several weeks later, I remembered reading somewhere – that we should not come before the Lord with empty hands. So, okay..., I placed some money in the Bible promising Gd that at the first opportunity I would give it where most needed. Nothing, nada, zip... Thinking upon it for several days, I was finally put to mind that maybe, I should actually let it go – now; that is, give it up – now. Whereupon I drove to the next town, deposited the money in a Salvation Army kettle, and drove home. Arriving home, I was prepared to see what would happen. Nothing, nada, zip... My dog’s cough was gone, he’s about, and been without a cough for the last week and a half. Whazzat!? Wha’s wid dat? Eh? General principle, or specific...? Quote
Guest Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Praise the Lord! I'm glad he is better, I only hope my dog will live a long time. He's five now. 17 years is long for any dog. Quote
jasd Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Thanks; however, I misspoke, my dog is 15-years old. I still have a half-coyote and half-AussieShepherd byatch that is 14-years old and seems to be going strong. Knock on wood. Surprising, what one is able to learn of Gd through one's dogs... Quote
