Quote:
I think it fair to say that Obama got a lot of votes (from all different races) because he was black. I don't think any white guy with his resume would have had a chance at becoming the nominee much less President. So I think race clearly helped him get there.

I am sure many voted on race as in the positive. There will always be those that are racist.

Understanding that is not the same as listening to those here and particularly a moderator accuse others of being racist because they don't share his view.

And please don't say that was not said.

Quote:
I think it also fair to say some (albeit not most) criticism of him has a racial component to it. Such is life as a racial minority in America. Sometimes the racial thing works for a person and sometimes it works against them.

Then I guess you know who is racist or not. Anything I read and any I personally talk to,race isn't even a factor. Again I am sure there are some, but it is not the norm.

What Obama has done and said is leading the concern.

His having to change his script for the students is because of concern of parents, not racists or only conservative.

The hypocrisy of the democrats in this is beyond belief.

Just change the name. Instead of the idolized Obama cahnge the name to Jan Paulsen.

Wonder what would be said if his message was "pledge allegience to Jan Paulsen" or how can we serve Jan Paulsen"

Don't know about yours but if that had taken place with mine they would have been out of there in a heart beat.

Yet how many are willing to do the verbal genuflect to a president? No other president would have gotten by with a communist in a powerful position.

Might be a real bummer for those that idolize this man,but instead of widespread racism,it is caused by Obama and friends themselves.

Actually, that is not true, Ed.

Sadly, the evidence contradicts you. You did not say that the reasoning was paranoid or racist, but rather that it was the "result of paranoia or racism."

Paranoia or racism are states of mind. You stated that the person could choose whether to accept the label of paranoia or racism.

this is a common practice of the PTB, and quite despicable.

Context is everything, Mr. Ed. And as usual, you miss the fine points...

Wow. Utterly amazing how fast the labels came out.

I think Bonnie we have found that many of your attacks, in particular, have very little relationship to reality or fact.

It bears repeating that often you say "I'll look for it" and you hardly if ever come back with "it" which leads me to conclude that it may have never existed in the first place. It's one thing to simply post your opinion but to pass them off as truth is another.

Most of the attacks against Bush also had very little relationship with reality or fact. That did not stop the attacks from being pedaled around as "fact", even by the media. Does ol' Dan Rather's "fact-filled" piece about Bush's National Guard duty ring a bell? Opinions, passed off as "facts", at the highest levels. And those of Democrat persuasion had a field day with this.

This nation endured 8 years of opinions passed off as "facts"; did that bother any Democrat? Now, Obama is receiving less than honorable homage from a much reduced number of news/information outlets than what Bush faced, and Democrats are now outraged? How fast the labels come out. It bears mentioning that as one sows to the wind, so shall one reap from the whirlwind. So true in the political scene.

Whose to say what is a "fact" these days? Certainly the majority of media outlets won't admit to anything being a "fact" unless it clears their agenda filters and has their "touch of grace".

In truth, we are watching a virtual civil war erupting in journalism - between those who are "owned" by the political left, and those who are not. Hence, what a "fact" is is going to vary greatly, depending on whom one trusts for their news and information...

As far as the "we" goes w/r/t Bonnie...there are plenty here who see her posts as strong opinions, not attacks. So...what do you mean by "we", kemosabe?

I keep hoping that there is someone over here that is accually open to dialogue...I doubt that this is gonna happen...Most of the mentality that I see here is so wolfish, it will devoure all the young and innocent...

But here is something that you might chew on...I thought it educated enough that maybe some of your intellectual could refute the conclusions of this author..,...then again, probably not...

Quote:

It is possible that if I were a truly gifted satirist -- a Twain, Mencken or the like -- I could find a more imaginative way of describing all of this. If I were a Swift or a Hunter S. Thompson, I imagine I could pull it off. Perhaps.

On the other hand, maybe none of those people lived in times quite like this. Sure, they lived in ridiculous times, and among ridiculous people, and saw truly asinine things. But this ridiculous, populated by people this stubbornly gullible, and this celebrated by their own leaders? I'm no longer sure that it's a given. Perhaps we have managed to shoot the moon, to wrap around again to the point where uninformed, dribbling paranoia is now finally and permanently more respectable than actual governance. Sarah Palin is, for a large part of the Republican Party, the closest thing to an intellectual voice that their version of know-nothing populism will allow, and that is very nearly the scariest thought to set itself down in the political landscape for a great many years.

Republican leaders have taken intelligence to the guillotine, and lopped its head clean off: from now on "the opposition is plotting to kill your grandmother" will have far more sway, in politics, than any actual realities of a healthcare system clearly and blatantly gone wrong. We boo those with medical conditions. We deny outright that the first non-white President of the United States is even a citizen of his own country, much less leader of it. We still insist that an administration breaking the law is less divisive and controversial than daring to investigate it. We put brick-stupid or malevolently selfish people on television, and feign outrage at anyone who points out their stupidity or selfishness. And the President speaking to your children is the onset of communism, although perhaps barely a tenth of the population that utter it have any actual notion of what "communism" might actually be.

Honestly, at this point I wonder if we do not deserve every bit of what we get. We worked very hard to erode the public-mindedness of our government, press and citizenry enough to get to this point. Perhaps we should count ourselves lucky if future American generations can write their own names.

::

Hmmm..."Republican leaders have taken intelligence to the guillotine and lopped its head clean off..."

This is supposed to be intelligent? Fuel for open dialogue? Wow. Passes rather for emotional opinion unsupported by reality or fact.

Here's a couple of facts for some real thought. Obama is not the first president to address children, nor will he be the last (should Christ greatly delay His return).

President Reagan addressed schools across the nation - even spoke of...gasp...TAX CUTS...in front of children.

Bush 41 also adressed schools of children. As I recall, the political Left screamed about it as well...using the same arguments being used recently. How dare Republicans try to indoctrinate our children!

Yet, today, there are a few differences very much overlooked, even poo-ed (if I may use the term) by Obama supporters with this address:

First, whereas previous Presidents went through proper channels (aka, the local school boards) to arrange their speeches, Obama's administration did not. They went straight to school principals across the nation, by-passing the people.

Second, no other President sent out materials for pre- and post-speech exercises. In light of the first point above (by-passing the people's duly constituted school boards), this was seen as a flagrant mistake across the nation - not just among the conservative-minded.

Third, that the first release of Obama's proposed speech content was reported to contain a personal pledge of allegiance to support Obama and his work/agenda - when coupled to a deseminated video of certain celebrities doing just this - was much more than the American people could take.

Whether that pledge was actually there or not originally, is now moot. People all across the nation rejected this approach to their children as both an affront to their sensibilities as to how things are supposed to be done, as well as unneeded exercise that had the appearance of flirting with political indoctrination.

Now as for the authors you spoke of...

Mark Twain was in his 30's when the Civil War broke out. Those times were a bit more interesting than these...

Mencken lived through the Wilson presidency, both World Wars, and the Great Depression. Again, times a bit more interesting than these...

Mencken was quite critical of President Roosevelt and his New Deal agenda. Going against the cult of personality surrounding FDR, Mencken was pretty much relegated to "outsider status" among the very same circle of people that once hailed him. If he were alive today and consistent in his critique, Mencken would not have many favorable words for our current president's agenda, either. That would put him going against the cult of personality some regard our current president to be building around himself.

Odd that you would regard such a man so esteemable intellectually, when he represents everything you find so unintelligent about today's political discourse.....

Where have you been Ted? Did you take a cruise around the world?

Actually, things get really busy around these parts for me at this time of year. Church, family and work all collide, and it keeps me really hopping. Sometimes, I am amazed how fast the days blow by before I get the chance to even check e-mail, let alone get back in here.

I did, however, make time to take the kids to go see Carlsbad Caverns a few weeks back, and to do a little dove hunting just this last weekend. Even managed to invent a new form of "catch and release" application for the birds last weekend. bwink

Just glad to be back...but it begins again quickly, as I have the sermon this weekend. No rest for the weary yet...

Make sure you give them meat in due season.

My prayers for my brothers and sisters is just that - allow me to give the bread of life to them. This Sabbath will center around Titus 3:5...

As far as the bird goes, though - the dove is happily off on its own, also taking in its meat as God gives it.

When I shot the dove, it was struck by the plastic wad, not the lead shot. It was merely stunned. When I went to retrieve the bird, I flew off before I could get to it.

That started off the day - the rest went just like it. Over 50 shots, no birds. Those dove were quite safe with my wingshootin'...Alas!

First time I've ever been completely skunked on a hunt. Going to have to put some 'smithing into that new shotgun, as it "obviously" can't be an operator problem... bwink

I think I need a bit more time in front of the clays... duno

adoh

An admition from a right wing republican that Obama was actually NOT indocrinating our children and that other presidents actually did speak to our children? OOOh, wow! maybe there might be some form of intelligence residing in the republican mindset. Trouble is, Neil, it is painfully obvious people are not united in their approaches to address the problems.

Bonnie has given many reasoned facts - facts you simply dismiss because they disagree with your world view. Because you have decided to dismiss her perceptions as mere paranoia, you have further polarized the discussion, and dismissed any solutions coming from her point of reference - solutions to these problems that might find agreement with a majority of Americans.

Hmmm...UNITED = agree with you.

That premise pattern is showing up again...

I long ago jettisoned that baggage. The premise you proceed on with this remark/lament is the being reasonable, being intelligent, being bi-partisan = AGREEING WITH YOU. Just as with every other moonbat that uses it. The very idea that one can be reasonable and intelligent, and yet disagree with every point of economic and politcal philosophy you present, is anathema to you. Hence, by your very premises you proceed on, you polarize those around you.

The reason we need to stay focused on ideas and not other members is because a lot of the ideas that get brought here by our members are not actually their ideas. They bring them here from a newspaper, magazine, radio program, TV broadcast and sometimes even from blogs.

Its simply important to at least post some evidence to support ones assertions about another individual. Wherever a "fact" comes from it need to be supported by some evidence.

Back up a minute. I don't recall which thread it is in without looking but I am assuming you have it. Unless for some reason I don't know it was deleted,I answered you as I am sure you know.

Do I believe Obama is racist?? YES.Am I going to apologize for saying that? NO

No one would spend 20 years listening to the hateful tirades of Jerimiah Wright. You can disagree all you want, but Obama lied about his relationship and knowledge about Wright. If he lied he knew he was in the wrong. If he is actually so unitelligent he could sit there for 20 years and not know,he certainly is not the smartest man ever to live in the whitehouse

Most people would run not walk away from influence or contact with someone like Ayers.

Michelle Obama, leaving a pretty good life prior to their stint in the white house, cannot remember ever being proud of being an american.

Yes to most people that and other incidences would cause a little concern over racism.

Did I tell you the quotes I quoted were found to be taking out of context? YES

When I received it for some reason I did not check as I usually do.

The quotes were not accurate in the impression that was intended to leave. They were taken out of context. That was obvious when reading further and some checking. Not sure what else you would like me to say but I guess I don't really care.

This probably doesn't even warrant an answer to you but I will go back and try to find the remarks by his own party and what they told him. He was not vetted and was responsible only to Obama. He also was known to be a self proclaimed communist

He doesn't. Obama disagrees with you. He said he didn't know even while saying something was not in the bill.

I have located the comments by "Obama" I was searching for.

When I saved those particular ones I did not check them out throughly. They appear to have been taken out of context from statements in one of his books.I should have checked them out before saying anything

Doesn't change my original impression of Obama being a racist.

If a search is done of those that have influenced him throughout life ,those he has indicated had a impact, each and everyone has been socialist,(black theology) communist and worse.

Does the following work for you Lazarus??

In February, Democratic Senator Robert Byrd, president pro tempore of the U.S. Senate and third in line to the presidency, wrote a letter to Obama, criticizing his "strategy of creating czars to manage important areas of national policy," saying it "violates both the constitutional system of checks and balances and the constitutional separation of powers, and is a clear attempt to evade congressional oversight."

Representative Jack Kingston (GA) is pushing for a law that requires any funding to be withheld from the czars unless they are confirmed by the Senate, not just appointed by Barack Obama: "I'm committed to ensuring these czars are put through the constitutionally-mandated process by which we review executive appointments and have offered an amendment that would withhold funding from any czar unless they are confirmed by the Senate."
