"He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark... " Rev 13:15-17 NKJV

In its October 2005 Federal Register notice, the State Department reassured Americans that the e-passport's chip would emit radio waves only within a 4-inch radius, making it tougher to hack.

But in May 2006, at the University of Tel Aviv, researchers directly skimmed an encrypted tag from several feet away. At the University of Cambridge in Britain, a student intercepted a transmission between an e-passport and a legitimate reader from 160 feet.

Should biometrics be coupled with RFID, "governments will have, for the first time in history, the means to identify, monitor and track citizens anywhere in the world in real time," says Mark Lerner, spokesman for the Constitutional Alliance, a network of nonprofit groups, lawmakers and citizens opposed to remotely readable identity and travel documents.

The ability to identify anyone on earth in any particular social structure is not somewhere in the distant future. How far away can it be when the above comes to pass, literally.

Thank you, PK. I happen to agree with your point. Being among the "common" social strata, I have the impression, right or wrong, that many of the decisions "made above us" are made because we "down here" are seen as unable to act responsibly if we have too much information.

I praise the Lord that He still convinces me that the only "best" option is to continue trusting in our Father's care when I'm tempted to think, along with chicken little, that "the sky is falling".(although, even with God's care I still think the sky is falling, albeit a little slower than might be anticipated). teehe

There is a rule of thumb here, and that is: By the time we hear about it, it has been around for about five years.

Absolutely Richard. Most of the time these things are being tested by the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and of course other government agency's.

It's falling, but He isn't going to let it hit us on the head.

1 Cor 10:13 is one of my very favourite promises. It keeps me from worrying about information like the above.

I try to live so no one would be after me for something I have done and leave the rest up to God. He will help me when the time comes.

A true description of a balanced life that keeps us from constantly having to look over our shoulder.

Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]John 14:27 AMP brackets theirs LHC

Makes me a lot less self-defensive also.

I'm a actually an RFID developer, and media LOVES to blow things out of the air on this one. There are a couple things you need to know about RFID technology...

1) There is ACTIVE and PASSIVE tags. The active tags would be a difficult and expensive thing to swing for every person in a country. The passive tags are pretty hard to read at a distance longer than a couple feet. That's the kind of tags that are embedded into passports. You should be able to read these with any RFID reader... the only problem of course that these only carry ID number and not the full info about the person.

I developed a couple Smart Media displays that will play info about a product placed next to it. passive RFID is only effective coupled with access to the electronic database on the reader's side.

I highly doubt that anyone would go for embedding personal info that would be read at diastase.

2) RFID readers are not a "radar" that you can point at a person and read their info. Even the active tags work by emitting a signal, and if there are 10 tags in a given range... all 10 of these would be read. But again, I highly doubt that the passive tags could be read at great distances without some kind of a country/city wide readers set up at every corner... which in itself is very daunting logistical task.

3) RFID signal can be easily scrambled/jammed/covered/spoofed making it ineffective personal tracking solution. Anyone with a half brain could get a lead jacket for the passport... or get a frequency jammer... or better yet have a decoy emitting someone else's info. Imagine all of the lawsuits the government would have to deal with?

4) All of this "RFID is the mark of the Beast" mumbo jumbo is really there to make you forget about some simple facts.

- The government is already tracking and profiling you extensively. You are required to give your personal info in exchange for driver's license, social security number, or marriage certificate...

- You are already being tracked through the phone calls you make, through the financial transactions you make or fail to make...

So, if you are worried about privacy... we have none left... especially given something like facebook that people embrace with arms wide open.
