Woody Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 The only example of that was when Bravus posted his political link here. But I had hoped that was just a quick side step on his part and I was willing to ignore it. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Moderators John317 Posted October 4, 2009 Moderators Posted October 4, 2009 And neither of you think Brazil/Rio has corruption, crime, debt and management problems? Do either of you have personal knowledge or experience upon which to make the comparison? This is a point I was going to make. I'm afraid the corruption in most of those countries-- remember the Olympics being in Mexico?-- would make Chicago look like heaven by comparison. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted October 4, 2009 Administrators Posted October 4, 2009 Have visited relatives in Rio and gotten a pretty clear picture of crime there I fear that security there is going to be a major concern. I have walked the streets of Chicago alone at night without major safety concerns in the area where they rpoposed to have the main venue. I would never do so in Rio, even in the tourist areas. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
Dr. Shane Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 I think the problem is that if Chicago tried to make the case that they have less crime than Rio they would bring an issue into focus that they didn't want to look at. The committee would also then look at Tokyo and Spain and they may look better than Chicago. The focus really needed to be on the athletic facilities, hotels, restaurants, security and transportation available. Chicago has a lot to offer in all those areas. But... the US has hosted the Olympics four times in the past 30 years and the last time we were selected it was due to corruption. South America has never hosted the Olympics. They were due. green Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Yes, you're right! This should be a time of congratulating all the atheletes that will be competing in their respective country and on to the internationals. But, as expected, some can't see the forest for the trees. They missed the big pictures and use politics as an excuse because it makes for what is condsidered to them, a good topic. When you can't comprehend it, you make it controversal. Quote
Members phkrause Posted October 5, 2009 Members Posted October 5, 2009 Was kind of thinking along those same lines Shane. We have hosted a number of olympics in the past number of years. And like I said I'm still disappointed, but very happy that SA has been chosen. And like some else has said, they will probably do a great job. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
