WayneV Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Read the whole page... Bravus, I could read the whole Bible in the time it would take me to ferry through that river of confusion. So, I think that's what I'll do. Quote WayneV Just remember these words of warning, for they will come to pass all too soon: If you are ever flying through the desert and your canoe breaks down, remember that it takes three pancakes to lift the doghouse, because there ain't nary a bone in ice cream!
GreatLakesGramma Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I'm with Wayne on this one. I have better things to do with my time than read all of that. Even only skimming through it, the scroll bar at the right had barely moved by the time I had given it all the time I was willing to waste on it. Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted October 10, 2009 Moderators Posted October 10, 2009 Read the whole page, and then inwardly reflect on how much of this stuff you also subscribe to, and where it can lead. (I assign this homework to myself as well.) You have got to be kidding. REad through all of that? Not me. Note the follwoign that they said at one point: Quote: Those two prophetic warnings have never come to pass, so we now know with certainty that they were FALSE warnings that were not from the Holy Spirit. You know have all the rights to label us as FALSE prophets and we fully accept the label and the responsibility of our actions. To everyone that we have hurt or misled, we are sorry. Please forgive us, for that was not our intention. We were TOTALLY convinced that we were hearing from the Holy Spirit. But we were WRONG. Of course they take it bac, expalin their error and go on again. Frankly, I doubt that anyone here wouldactually read every word. Quote Gregory
Lutz13 Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 teresaq: my point was more that we need to be aware of the dangers of conspiracy theories, date setting and linking particular current events to prophecy in order to allow date setting. If you read down the page a bit you will see the anguished apologies of people who set dates and then watched them uneventfully go by. SDAs should be immune to this stuff, given our history, but we sometimes seem not to be. God wasn't messing about when he said no-one knows when... better to just live each day as though the end were today. While it is true that we should live each day like it was our last. We are also told to despise not prophecy. There is a reason it is there. Revelation is a book that is supposed to be read and not put away because we shouldn't know what is coming our way. It is all about being prepared. When I saw this post, I was going to try and ignore it. It feels as if you posted it to stab at some of our beliefs. There may be a lot of things on that page we subscribe to, yet the truth is often mixed with error. Satan loves doing that. Also I'm not sure of any date setting that is being done by other SDA's...? wayfinder Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Jesus did not say that no one knows when..., He said but of that day and hour no one makes known... but the Father only, big difference. When you understand the process of a Hebrew/Israelite wedding then this makes perfect sense. The only one who had the priveledge/right to set the date for the wedding was the father of the bridegroom. The father would tell his son when he could have the marriage feast and the son would go for his bride. Everything that Jesus said about His leaving and preparation and return was in the context of this marriage process. Revelation 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show to His bond-servants, the things which must soon take place; and He sent and communicated it by His angel to His bond-servant John, Revelation 19:7 "Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready." The Revelation is all about the marriage of the Lamb Quote
Members phkrause Posted October 10, 2009 Members Posted October 10, 2009 This is what the verse says: "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. NASB But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. KJV But of that day and hour knoweth no one, not even the angels of heaven, neither the Son, but the Father only. ASV “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself.[k] Only the Father knows. Moderators Bravus Posted October 10, 2009 Author Moderators Posted October 10, 2009 Not trying to 'stab at' any SDA beliefs, Lutz... just reminding people that SDAs can tend to get caught up in controversial conspiracy theories and date-setting. As you note, truth is often mixed with error, and while the corporate SDA church has good mechanisms for sorting out which is which, individual members are, IMO, often taken in. People seem to misinterpret: my concerns in everything I post here are twofold: 1. To make for a good, interesting, enjoyable dicusssion - this is a discussion forum (not a steel cage for fights), and I post to prompt discussion 2. To support and protect the SDA church - including sometimes from itself. Despite claims, I am not an evolutionist: if people would be willing to acknowledge my critiques of *bad* creationist science, they could get on with doing some *good* creationist science. And so on. Believe it or not, I'm a friend to the denomination. Quote Truth is important
GreatLakesGramma Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Also I'm not sure of any date setting that is being done by other SDA's...? It stands to reason that the Father would not keep this a secret forever, because the Bridegroom will come and He cannot come until the day and hour is revealed/made known by His Father, this is how the process of the marriage worked. Members phkrause Posted October 10, 2009 Members Posted October 10, 2009 My sister-in-law worked for an evangelist/pastor in the Ft. Worth/Dallas area a number of years ago. Who had meetings on when the Lord was going to come. He didn't exactly set a date, but gave a ballpark date. I think lots do that. They wont set an exact date but say, well I think between 02 and 04. There's a Brazlian pastor in the area who came up with a theory based on the sabbatical years. Based on the Jewish calendar and that the earth is about 6,000 years old, he figures that when the earth gets to be 6,000 years old Jesus will come and than we will spend the sabbatical year in heaven, which would be 1000 years. The only problem he says is we don't really known how far back the jews started there calendar. He thinks its off by a few hundred years. Right now the jewish calendar is in the year 5770. So now is this date setting or just trying to get an idea. I think his theory has a lot of merit, but I don't sit around and try to pin it down more than its worth. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. LifeHiscost Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 better to just live each day as though the end were today. Having come into the Seventh Day Adventist Church when there were approximately 600,000 members worldwide, and you could travel 'round the world and feel right at home no matter where you might light in an Adventist congregation, no greater Truth could be voiced than what you've expressed above. However I'm not of the opinion that North American Adventism was exactly what Jesus had in mind when He said, "...that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
