SivartM Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Let's discuss how our society discriminates against shy people. Very shy people are, in my experience, usually perceived as "slow", immature, or mentally incapacitated in some way, or at the very least ignored by almost everyone else. To the outgoing people: You may think you're nice to shy people, but if someone is very shy (as in, they never talk around you unless they have to), you may have to actually BE their friend instead of just being nice to them and not talking out loud about how you think they're sort of slow. Shyness is not a disease or a mental disorder. Shy people are different from outgoing people, but that doesn't make outgoing people any better OR any smarter. There are shy people who are smarter than you, so don't judge people's intelligence on how outgoing they are. This goes to show how important it is to treat everyone lovingly, even if they don't seem very nice to you. You may think it's too harsh to say that most people discriminate against shy people. But it's true, especially if you're on the shy side. And every time you ignore the shy person who seems to be ignoring you, the more cut off they are from others. You're affirming that they are not worth talking to. Quote "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much." - Oscar WildeDo to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets." - Jesus
Members phkrause Posted October 10, 2009 Members Posted October 10, 2009 I've always been a shy person, still am. It takes me a little while to feel comfortable, especially when with people. Even here on the forum I was hesitant to converse at first. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
