Stan Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 1 - Let them know we have a lifetime of wisdom, and any new thoughts they have are clearly wrong. 2 - Let them know that seekers, need to stop seeking and just accept. 3 - Let them know, is subtle ways, that the leaders will convict them of theirs sins, and it is faster and more reliable then convictions of some God they can not see. 4 - Liberals and the educated will not be in heaven, so don't even try joining the Church. 5 - Let them know that the reasons things don't happen is because they do not have enough faith, and it is their fault. bonnie Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 1 - Let them know that the biblical instruction to "raise a child up in the way he should go"does not apply to them and every new thought or desire should be indulged. 2 Let them know that seekers no matter what they seek should be encouraged and indulged. Parents lack the wisdom to educate and encourage 4 - Liberals and the educated should be the only ones listened to as having anything of value to say to their children. For those that are liberal and educated or both leave the church. Conservative is synonymous with hypocritical legalists that pass judgment on others. We know these people cannot go to heaven so it is best you stay away. 5 - Let them know that the reasons things don't happen is never their fault, never their responsibility. If church is not exactly what they want it to be Leave. But above all remember a educated liberal is a cut above as they do not judge, have no expectations, and the only sin there is is to think something may be a sin or the sin of conservatism. Liz Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Are ya'll talking about youth as in number of years, or youth as in new to the church? Either way, how about giving them responsibilities that are far beyond their capabilities, and then chastise them each time they fail to meet up to "your" standards? Quote For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Mat. 16:26Please, support the JDRF and help find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. Either way, how about giving them responsibilities that are far beyond their capabilities, and then chastise them each time they fail to meet up to "your" standards? I guess we haven't tried that yet. Sounds like something we missed. Silly people have the youth give scripture reading and opening prayer for church, youth frequently pick and lead out in song service. The worst of that is they choose the music. Sometimes they have really strayed and instead of piano, guitars. What really is enough to make you lose faith is the times the youth have given the sermon. Now that is enough to make conservatives almost need the paramedics. Girls and boys pick up the offering, help in the cradle roll and kindergarden class. Easy to see how conservatives need to be ousted instead of the educated liberal. We should have seen that before. To keep the educated, the liberal, the youth, there simply cannot be anyplace in the SDA denomination for a conservative. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Neil D Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 I like going to an Adventist church near me on my bike. Jeans and leather, and noncomformists like me, are welcome I have threatened to set up a time to preach and then loose weight, and go to a thrift store, by some army fatigues, and some other clothes, and get a cloak that has lots of pockets. I would also color my hair red, wear a full beard, add large eyelashes...I would put a lot of verious snacks that had those noisey wrappers...and get a grocery basket, fill it with homeless iitems, and then go to a SDA church..... During Sabbath school in the main sanctuary, I would sit up front...shout "Amen" to anything that comes close to "God loves you" during the discussion...I would eat some of those snacks, and probably get 'tired' and fall asleep and make snoring noises....And then wait for the main service to go thru it's services....and when it came time for the preacher to preach...I would arise out of the main seating section....and slowly remove the clothes that I had layered on me....and last remove the wig and/or eyelashes, and beard.... All the while saying recounting the following verses.... " 'When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' 44"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' 45"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.' I think you all gave a sermon today....I think we need to go home and think about what we have done today...and pray for our souls....." Moderators Gerr Posted October 13, 2009 Moderators Posted October 13, 2009 The SDA church is anathema to our only child/son today for none of all the above reasons. He felt no love in the church. We sent him to our church schools believing he would be loved and nurtured. Nothing could have been farther from the truth. The harassment and treatment as a pariah started when the school teacher recommended that he be advanced to 4th grade after finishing his first. We insisted that was too big of jump and so he went to third grade. He was bullied, but we taught him never to fight back. In retrospect that might have been a mistake. In high school the kids had their cliques and was never included. When my wife became sick, I drove him to school 20 miles to the academy and then pick him up after my office work. I knew he was not popular but I never picked up how much turmoil he was having inside. Only years later did he tell us he even contemplated suicide, and that what kept his sanity was the love he felt at home. He was made to feel there was something wrong with him. To make matters worse, he felt his fellow students were disrespectful and looking down on other religions because "we have the truth." And perhaps one of Stan's points might apply, his Bible teacher discouraged disturbing questions. I have always taught him never to be afraid of asking questions but to always do it in a respectful manner. Want to keep youth out of the church? Make them feel unloved! Quote
