Power for Obedience

If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. John 15:10.

Some who claim to believe in Jesus Christ as their Saviour have said, "No one can keep the law." On this point the words of Christ are decisive. He states, "I have kept my Father's commandments." And He is our example in all things. . . .

In the Sermon on the Mount Christ plainly declared His mission. "Think not," He said, "that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil" (Matthew 5:17). He came to carry out literally every specification concerning which the prophets had borne testimony. He who existed with the Father before the creation of the world, Himself gave the prophecies recorded by holy men--the prophecies that He came afterward to fulfill. . . .

Christ's position with His Father is one of equality. This enabled Him to become a sin offering for transgressors. He was fully sufficient to magnify the law and make it honorable. . . . He separated the precepts of Jehovah from the maxims and traditions of men. He held up the Ten Commandments as an expression of truth in all its purity. . . .

Christ came to the world to counteract Satan's falsehood that God had made a law which men could not keep. Taking humanity upon Himself, He came to this earth, and by a life of obedience showed that God has not made a law that man cannot keep. He showed that it is possible for man perfectly to obey the law. Those who accept Christ as their Saviour, becoming partakers of His divine nature, are enabled to follow His example, living in obedience to every precept of the law. Through the merits of Christ, man is to show by his obedience that he could be trusted in heaven, that he would not rebel.

Christ possessed the same nature that man possesses. He was tempted in all points like as man is tempted. The same power by which He obeyed is at man's command.

Hmmmmmmmmm?? Just thinking on this. Was not there a NT writer who wrote that it was impossible for man to keep the ten commandments?

Please quote it or give the reference and then tell what you believe it is saying in regard to the Ten Commandments.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

No there wasn't. The only people who believe that are those that haven't really studied their Bible, and those who are terribly decieved by Satan.

No, don't get me wrong, I love what you wrote--but then, was not there a NT writer who wrote that they were cursed if they kept the ten commandments or something like that?

That's Why I said you need to study, because you lack knowledge of what the Bible says.

And No, nobody said anything like that.

Just remember these words of warning, for they will come to pass all too soon:

If you are ever flying through the desert and your canoe breaks down, remember that it takes three pancakes to lift the doghouse, because there ain't nary a bone in ice cream!

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. Rom.10:4.

This says that Christ did away with the law for righteousness (10 Commandments).

For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression. Rom. 4:15.

This says that we don't have to worry about breaking the law of God because since the Law (10 Commandments) are put away.

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— Gal.3:13.

This says that the Law of God was a curse, and that since Jesus was hung from a tree (crucified) He was cursed by that very Law.

Does this sound odd to anyone other than just to me?

These brethren knew nothing of the mission of the Holy Spirit. When asked by Paul if they had received the Holy Ghost, they answered, "We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost." "Unto what then were ye baptized?" Paul inquired, and they said, "Unto John's baptism." Then the apostle set before them the great truths that are the foundation of the Christian's hope.

He told them of Christ's life on this earth and of His cruel death of shame. He told them how the Lord of life had broken the barriers of the tomb and risen triumphant over death. He repeated the Saviour's commission to His disciples: "All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." Matthew 28:18, 19. He told them also of Christ's promise to send the Comforter, through whose power mighty signs and wonders would be wrought, and he described how gloriously this promise had been fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost.

With deep interest and grateful, wondering joy the brethren listened to Paul's words. By faith they grasped the wonderful truth of Christ's atoning sacrifice and received Him as their Redeemer. They were then baptized in the name of Jesus, and as Paul "laid his hands upon them," they received also the baptism of the Holy Spirit, by which they were enabled to speak the languages of other nations and to prophesy. Thus they were qualified to labor as missionaries in Ephesus and its vicinity and also to go forth to proclaim the gospel in Asia Minor. {AA 283}

We cannot depend for counsel upon humanity. The Lord will teach us our duty just as willingly as He will teach somebody else. If we come to Him in faith, He will speak His mysteries to us personally. Our hearts will often burn within us as One draws nigh to commune with us as He did with Enoch. Review and Herald, July 14, 1910.

Christ didn't do away with anything. The Law never would make anyone righteous, and it still won't.

This is an outright lie. That's not what he's saying and you know it.

Another distortion.

MM you should know that " whosoever loveth and maketh a lie" will not have a right to the tree of life. Rev. 22:15 You should be ashamed of yourself, but I don't think you are. I know I'm ashamed of you.

What I was looking for, Richard, was someone to explain these verses to me in a way that makes sense, not just castigate me for asking the question. You did not answer the questions raised by those verses, you just said that I was wrong in my interpretation. Did you not answer because you won't, or can't? I merely pointed out what Paul said, and gave you my understanding of what he said. Now it's your turn; that is what discussion is all about.

Yet another falshood. You didn't ask any questions. Where are the question marks? Not a one. No, you made statements. False, misleading, statements, that sound like they could have come from Satan himself. And now you want to try and turn it around and say you were only asking questions. But all the reader has to do is look at your statements and the fact that there are no question marks, to know the truth.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. Exo 20:16

For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. Rev 22:15

Maybe you could, like, pretend he asked what those verses actually meant, and then tell him. Or something. :D

Richard, why the obfuscation? Just tell me what those verses mean. I asked you to explain these verses and you choose to redirect. You either know or you don't. Am I to be continually castigated for pointing out inconsistencies, asking for help in understanding, and then getting only, "how dare you ask that"? It sounds to me as if you are telling me that I need to believe as you do just because you say it. Come on, help me out here.
