First, they came for Fox News...

Ethel C. Fenig

Faint though it is, the heartbeat of media integrity still flutters weakly, perhaps realizing this is necessary to save itself.

Barack Obama, (D) the first African-American president in the history of the US, added a dubious first to his presidency--for the first time in the history of the US the president banned an entire network from the White House press pool. Which network? Why the one the administration is futilely trying to delegitimize but is only helping--Fox, of course.

Doug Ross explains the significance of the White House's shameful--and increasingly desperate--act.

Today the White House stepped up its attack on Fox News, announcing that the network would no longer be able to conduct interviews with officials as a member of the Press Pool. The Pool is a five-member group consisting of ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News and NBC organized by the White House Correspondents Association. Its membership is not subject to oversight by the government. Before an interview with "Pay Czar" Kenneth Feinberg, the administration announced that Fox News would be banned from the press pool.

This dictat meant that no administration figure would consent to be interviewed by Fox News; Fox had a glimpse of that last week when officials made the rounds of all the Sunday interview shows on all the networks except...Fox's.

Perhaps realizing the implications for their own networks, all the White House officially approved networks refused to go along.

They told the White House that if Fox were banned, none of the other networks would participate. The White House relented, but in an apparent act of petulant retaliation, it restricted each network to a two-minute interview instead of the standard five.

As Ross noted

Perhaps the White House will next try to pull Fox News' press pass.

That would be entirely consistent with the Hugo Chavez-style of government that President Axelrod and his advisers are trying to install.

He also wonders if the ACLU will defend Fox's first amendment freedom of the press, freedom of speech rights. Yeah, wonder away.

The administration has some exceedingly dirty tricks planned; this is only the beginning.

In the meantime, thanks to this administration's willful ignorance of the first amendment Fox's ratings have increased, other networks are compelled to mention their competitor and all media organizations are becoming increasingly uneasy about the increasingly shrill demands that the media parrot the administration line or be banned.

After all, they might be next.

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this.

I thought this sounded a lot like Hugo Chavez too when I first heard it. If the Obama Administration keeps this up the entire press corps will turn on them and they will be done. If they make an enemy out of the media not only won't they get re-elected, they will get nothing done while there.

Fox news ratings has shot through the roof the last few weeks. This only helps Fox News rating. Fox news is the ONLY news network I listen to. I used to Listen to MSNBC but their Obama praise and worship and putting down everyone who said anthing against Obama just turned me off and I switched to Fox news exclusively now.

Pretty much the same here as well.

I remember that figures like Rush Limbaugh and FOX news are private citizen organizations, with Constitutional freedoms and protections. That the political left is staging such high-profile attacks on private citizens is alarming.

While I dislike a significant amount of rhetoric from the political right, that coming from the left is nothing but propaganda and hate. It will take a very long time for the Democrat Party to earn back my respect. Their first step would have to be removal of the socialists and fascists that head the party at the current time.

And the Republican Party is heading down the same road...sad times when free-thinking Americans have no voice in the 2-party system unless they stage a "revolution" inside one party or the other.

"As iron sharpens iron, so also does one man sharpen another" - Proverbs 27:17

"The offense of the cross is that the cross is a confession of human frailty and sin and of inability to do any good thing. To take the cross of Christ means to depend solely on Him for everything, and this is the abasement of all human pride. Men love to fancy themselves independent. But let the cross be preached, let it be made known that in man dwells no good thing and that all must be received as a gift, and straightway someone is offended." Ellet J. Waggoner, The Glad Tidings

Yes. How true. I've lost a lot of respect for the Democrats. They had a great opportunity to do good and have blown it.

In the political arena, as with many others, respect is nice when you can get it but not essential to making the world a better place.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

Let me see ...

Respect = Votes

Votes = Respect.

I would say that in politics ... Respect is pretty important.

All I know is that there was a time when our nation was an Obamanation. Our church even got wrapped up into it. Some churches were called Obama Seventh day Adventist Church. But no longer. Obama has lost the respect that is so needed politically.

I thought the groveling tour Obama took was to regain respect and goodwill globally

I think we should replace with Halloween with Obamaween. Maybe that will overcome some of the objections in the church to celebrating Halloween.

Well Shane ... I don't think that even Obama can save us from those people.

You don't need the respect of the opposition to get votes. The more disrespect conservatives show Obama the more he's probably on the right track. The fact that y'll lost respect for the Dems is a good sign.

A recent poll shows that 20% of the country considers themselves liberals, 40% conservative and 38% moderate. The liberals need a very big chunk of that moderate vote to win. I am a moderate. I voted for Obama. He is not guaranteed to get my vote next time. He needs to earn it. I suspect many other moderates feel the same way.

Saying they are 'moderate' is just a cop out for trying to be PC and not commit to either side in front of the pollster. This way they are trying to say they are above the fighting and they are above those who know what they stand for.

That sounds like something Rush Limbaugh would say. I use to be conservative and was not ashamed to say it. I moved more toward the middle over the past decade. I am not politically correct and I don't think anyone on this forum would accuse me of being above fighting. I think I am correctly described as a militant moderate.

The battle is always for the middle third. Like Biden said, who cares what Cheney thinks?

Well, the conservatives are the Republican base so Republicans need to be concerned or the conservatives will vote for a third party and hand victory to the Democrats.
