GreatLakesGramma Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 It's also cold and wet. And I am SO thankful I have a roof over my head, a good furnace, and electric lights. Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted October 23, 2009 Members Posted October 23, 2009 I talked on the phone to my cousin in Wisconsin yesterday, and it was SNOWING where she lives!! I hope it's not going to be a bad winter again! It's cold, rainy, and windy here in Oregon today too... But like you, GLG, I'm happy to be inside a house to keep me warm and dry! Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Members phkrause Posted October 23, 2009 Members Posted October 23, 2009 My sister-in-law and her husband live about 50 miles from Jackson Hole, WY and they had a foot of snow about a week ago or so GLG. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Moderators Gerr Posted October 23, 2009 Moderators Posted October 23, 2009 I'm thankful for people who love places like Wisconsin & Michigan! Too many people came to Southern Cal from such places that prompted us to move out. I hope it won't become too crowded where we are now. Quote
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted October 23, 2009 Members Posted October 23, 2009 I'm just hoping for a calmer winter than that snow blast storm after storm we had here last winter. My car was stuck in the garage for 2 weeks because I couldn't drive the streets due to the ice and snow. So I was housebound and going stir crazy during that time! SivartM Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 I think dark and gloomy days are good weather. Amelia Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 *GP I'm a native Oregonian (means I was born here, not native American). I like dark gloomy days. :) Quote <p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><span style="font-weight:bold;"><span style="font-style:italic;">"Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and provide what is needed, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you."</span></span> Eph 4:29</span><br><br><img src="http://banners.wunderground.com/weathersticker/gizmotimetemp_both/US/OR/Fairview.gif" alt="Fairview.gif"> Fairview Or</p>
GreatLakesGramma Posted October 25, 2009 Author Posted October 25, 2009 I can't like dark, gloomy days. I'm solar powered, which means that on dark, gloomy days I have no energy. I also always used to get depressed too, though in my early years, I never understood why depression came and went, totally unrelated to anything happening in my life. The gloom doesn't depress me so easily anymore, but I still have a very hard time getting motivated or even functioning effectively. That's why we have fluorescent light fixtures in every room in our house, with full-spectrum tubes. There are some advantages to being married to an electrician. There's a medical name for that condition: S A D [seasonal Affective Disorder] I have it. I know I could never function if I moved to the Pacific Northwest -- or even to Michigan. GreatLakesGramma Posted October 25, 2009 Author Posted October 25, 2009 No, I don't have SAD. I have no problem at all with the length of the day. It happens throughout the entire year, whenever the sky turns gloomy. In fact, once the sun sets and the sky turns black instead of gray, the depression always disappears and my energy returns. I am just hyper sensitive to the lack of full spectrum light. Being in a room that's painted light blue helps, and turning on incandescent lights when I was depressed helped a little with the depression, but they always made me nervous, because the color was too yellow.
