skyblue888 Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 "The light given me of the Lord in this matter is that as far as possible lady physicians should care for lady patients, and gentlemen physicians have the care of gentlemen patients ... any unnecessary exposure of ladies before male physicians is wrong ... women should be educated and qualified just as thoroughly as possible to become practitioners in the delicate disease which affect women, that their secret parts should not be exposed to the notice of men ... it is a most horrible practice, this revealing the secret parts of women to men, or men being treated by women. Women physicians should utterly refuse to look upon the secret parts of men ... It is not in harmony with the instructions given at Sinai that Gentlemen physicians should do the work of midwives. The Bible speaks of women at childbirth being attended by women, and thus it ought always to be." (Counsels on Health, p. 363-4-5). Musicman1228 Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 How parochial and outdated. We all have the same equipment one way or the other, so who cares. To limit the practice of medicine of female doctors to only female patients would put both women patients and physicians at a distinct disadvantage, because there are so few female docs compared with males; and it would limit the practice that a female doctor could go in to. When I had my heart attack (June 2008-100% blockage of the right descending coronary artery) I didn't care one fig that the ER doc was female. They stripped me down, covered me up and sent me off to the Cath lab where I was given a stint and my life was saved. My dermatology doc is female and was a classmate of mine when I was in college. She is very experience, I trust her completely and because I had malignant melanoma 4 years ago I get a complete stem to stern exam every 3 months. She, along with the other docs in dermatology, surgery, proton beam therapy, oncology, and many other disciplines, have saved my life, for which I am very grateful. I could care less what gender the doctor is just as long as they know their stuff. Quote
Dr. Rich Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Hey Sky, Please don't get me started on interesting quotes from EGW! Can't we all just use our brain--the one God gave us? Quote

Moderators Nan Posted November 21, 2009 Moderators Posted November 21, 2009 Coming at this from another angle....I am a female OBGYN and work in an area where there are quite a few Muslim ladies of Lebanese origin. The vast majority of them prefer female doctors if possible. In nonMuslim patients, I often see women who would prefer not to see a male...and I have had other female patients who were more comfortable seeing a male than a female. This is not a direct comment on the EGW quote, just a comment on how things are out there in the real....nonSDA....world in this part of Oz. Quote
Woody Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Hey Sky, Please don't get me started on interesting quotes from EGW! Can't we all just use our brain--the one God gave us? Excellent advice.
