Moderators Bravus Posted November 14, 2009 Moderators Posted November 14, 2009 Please note that I'm not endorsing Pharyngula by posting this here, and I'm *definitely* not endorsing many of the comments after the post. But I was horrified by the response that is being commented on in this blog post. What are your comments on 'Christian/Biblical ethics' in relation to this hypothetical? http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2009/11/a_moral_conundrum_resolved_wit.php Quote Truth is important
Moderators Gerr Posted November 14, 2009 Moderators Posted November 14, 2009 Here is what I posted in that site: Posted by: gerry | November 14, 2009 6:17 AM There IS a true-to-life story in the Bible just like the hypothetical situation posited above. This is found in Joshua 2, where the pagan Rahab hid 2 Israeli spies. When the Jericho Gestapo came searching, she denied knowing their whereabouts even though she hid them on her roof. She was commended for her faith in doing so. You will find this in Hebrews 11. The commandment says: You shall not bear false witness AGAINST your neighbor. When Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was, His reply was: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart...... and your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22. All laws and all ethical teachings of the prophets hang on these 2 greatest commandments. True love for one's fellowman would take precedence over some rule that requires to tell the truth to someone whose only purpose is to destroy your neighbor. Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted November 14, 2009 Author Moderators Posted November 14, 2009 Excellent answer, Gerry. I'm delighted you posted it there, too. Quote Truth is important
Moderators Gerr Posted November 14, 2009 Moderators Posted November 14, 2009 Seems like we have another point of agreement. Yeah, one of the world's biggest problem is NOT for lack of religion. It's actually too much religion! Unfortunately, it's religion of the wrong kind. It's as the devil would have it to turn people away from the God of heaven. Quote
Woody Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Good Point CoA. I think Christ was tearing down the established 'church' rather than building it up. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Guest Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Bravus, how much time do you spend at the Atheist website reading this garbage? I quit reading it rather quickly due to the blaphemy and profanity. Quote
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted November 14, 2009 Moderators Posted November 14, 2009 We live in a world in which we at times are required to make a choice and take a position in which all courses of action open to us are less than God's ideal. I.e. None are what God would want in a perfect world. All contain elements of the sin that came into our lives. There are times when the choice that we make may have to be the best one, or the least evil. Quote Gregory
