Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted November 18, 2009 Members Posted November 18, 2009 I couldn't believe the news about insurance rates and salaries of the CEO's in the paper this morning. It's outrageous! Oregon has some of the most stupid insurance regulators in the country, I think. People are already having a difficult time paying insurance premiums already (if they can even afford it...I can't) - this is only going to make it harder. Anarchy, anyone? Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Members phkrause Posted November 19, 2009 Members Posted November 19, 2009 Rudywoofs, this has nothing to do with the healthcare that they are working on. Because if I'm not mistaken that would not kick in for another few years. The rate increase's have been going on for years. Where I used to work they changed insurance every year, because the rates went up every year at least 15-20%. Don't forget the state's can except what the companies want or lower there demands. But I definitely agree with you that its rediculess (sp) how much they want each year. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted November 19, 2009 Author Members Posted November 19, 2009 pk, I *know* this has nothing to do with the healthcare reform act in Congress. It is just my standing on my soapbox voicing my opinion of the ninnies in the Oregon medical insurance racket. And I'm sure the ninnies have counterparts in every State in the Nation... GreatLakesGramma Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 I don't have medical insurance because we can't afford it. If Obama's health reform passes and forces us to buy insurance, it will be a serious hardship for us. And I don't believe for one minute that they will give us any help with the cost, since THEY will be the ones to decide if we can afford it. If we made an issue of it with them, they'd just tell us to quit giving 15% or our gross income to our church, and then we could afford it. I am praying, as I did when Clintons were trying to do the same thing, that their plans will come to nothing. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. bonnie Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 GREATLAKESGRAMMA I like you do not have medical insurance and I also like you it would be a hard ship to get the OBAMA insurance dgrimm60 Health care is not a right. A for profit company is free to charge what the market will bear. I personally think actors and actresses are paid way more than they are worth or contribute. Same for sports teams. They are not worth the price they want to be seen and admired When or if I buy a new car I don't like the final price. Very high wages and bonuses contribute to the high price of new cars. To own a car at a price I think is reasonable is not my right. Using insurance for almost every hang nail can give you some pricey premiums. High deductible can give some reasonable premiums. We always carried 2500.00 deductible when our children were at home. Our premiums were very reasonable for a family of six. For several years we made the decision not to carry insurance. Insurance should be for the serious or chronic illness, not every Dr visit. When you want a cadillac whether car or insurance you will pay. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman

Members phkrause Posted November 19, 2009 Members Posted November 19, 2009 Here in Mass we don't have a choice, all must have insurance. Now are there some that still don't? Probably! The only way to know is when they are hurt, sick or whatever, and they have to use the ER to get some kind of help. From what I've heard each time an uninsured person uses the ER the rest of the people in the state pay for this. So I'm not sure what the solution is. If the uninsured pay for there visit that is one thing, but again from what I've heard, read and soforth must don't, so someone has to pay, do they not. This is why Mass has made all get health insurance. My wife who used to work at an ER in Worcester, MA, and been a office manager for and eye doctor has seen much of this problem, but again what are the answers? No one seems to know, or at least that's what they say. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

GreatLakesGramma Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Insurance should be for the serious or chronic illness, not every Dr visit. When you get insurance through an employer, you don't have much choice as to what the coverage will be. The only thing I am interested in insurance for at all is hospitalization. I would not consider using drugs for chronic illness, and I seldom go to a doctor. I prefer a more natural approach to healing, and it works well for me. Doctors have failed me time and time again. I have little use for them, except in case of injury or emergency. I have recently been considering getting catastrophic health insurance somewhere else, but right now is not a good time for it. My husband's work is very tied to the economy, and in Michigan, it has been declining for 8 years. I don't know how much longer his employer can hold out, as he has lost money 6 of the last 8 years. This is not a time to spend money if we don't have to. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. LifeHiscost Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Many years ago, I had to make a decision about whether to give tithe or buy insurance. I didn't have enough for both. After discussing it with Jesus I determined that if I had a million dollars worth of insurance and God wanted me to lose one dollar, no matter how much insurance I had I would lose all that the insurance would pay plus one dollar. So I concluded I would only buy what the government required and depend on the Lord to see that I didn't lose anymore than He could provide. While we have lost about $5000 during the 50 years since then, in unexpected accidents, we've never lost a meal. And even though my wife is chronically ill, up to this time we've always been able to meet expenses one way or another. Praise God! Not to mention that we've probably saved far more than $5000 in premiums in that period of time. So what that I didn't buy a Cadillac Escalade for the fat cats. "“Ho! Everyone who thirsts,Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price." Isaiah 55:2 NKJV What's the words to that song____ Soon and very soon, we're going to see the King, soon and very soon! Blessings! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

In Mich it sounds like your husband is one of the fortunate ones Yes, he is. We are very thankful that he still has a job. Even though our income has been declining for the last 8 years, at least we still HAVE income. Did your doctor explain why employer paid insurance has had such an influence on insurance prices? Even though our income has been declining for the last 8 years, at least we still HAVE income. Did your doctor explain why employer paid insurance has had such an influence on insurance prices? Yes he did. I couldn't figure out why the company I worked for changed insurance companies every year or so. I had the flu and took four days off. When I came back to work I was told I had to go to the DR and basically get a excuse slip.He got pretty angry at the waste of time and resource It amounted to telling the DR what my symptoms HAD been and he said yup, sounds like the flu. I paid a 35.00 copay and the insurance paid the balance of that idiotic visit. Add to that about 100 employee's over a couple of months of the flu going thru the company. It is not the isolated serious illness as heart attack etc that raises the premiums. It is the countless senseless Dr visits Totally unnecessary. When a company has more than the anticipated claims over a specified time the premiums go up and they search for a different company. When a product or service is paid by someone else most recipients don't make intelligent use of the product. We had friends that had insurance thru employment at Ford. Their two daughters were at the DR regularly. Cold, headache etc. The Dr finally told them to stop bringing the girls in for such trivial matters. It was provided and they were going to get their money's worth. The wife took early retirement from Ford. When they were responsible for their own insurance they were much more frugal. The regular visit's dwindled to almost zero as the girls were healthy young people. Our neighbor did the same. If the kids sneezed they were at the DR. They were also told to quit abusing the system. My husband was self employed so we provided our own. By choosing a plan which you could not do thru work we never paid unreasonable premiums when we carried insurance. We opted for a deductible of 2500.00 and up and insured four active boys very reasonably. When you use and over use a product the price will go up.When you are not responsible for the price of that product you get what you can. I no longer work outside the home but keep contact with some previous co-workers. In the three years since I left they have changed policies twice and everyone is upset as the premiums have gone up and the portion they are required to pay. If you miss a day of work for not feeling well, and it is unsheduled Dr visits are still required to prevent being written up.Three write-ups and you are dismissed.
