Administrators Gail Posted November 20, 2009 Administrators Posted November 20, 2009 A couple of weeks ago I was in to my hygienist's office for a routine teeth cleaning. While I was there I told her about a tooth that was sensitive to hot and cold, and could the dentist check it out. THey did an x-ray and found that the tooth I complained about has a very short root. But the one next to it was abscessed. Now this tooth didn't hurt, I have no fever nor swelling. I never knew something was amiss, other than a "weird" feeling to the touch. Sometimes it felt irritable. The dentist gave me a prescription for an antibiotic and we made an appointment for a root canal. The next day I got a call saying that I had already used up my insurance limit for the year. So I cancelled the root canal, intending to have it done come January. Instead of filling the prescription for the antibiotic (I have had an allergic reaction to tetracycline and adverse reaction to penicillin so I'm wary of them) I started applying activated charcoal poultices to both sides of the gum of the affected root. I did this plus took oil of oregano daily. The charcoal I applied 3 or 4 times daily for a week. I told the dentist of my plan and he agreed to do another x-ray before he went in to simply drain the abscess. This will hold me until I can get the root canal. When I looked at the 2 x-rays together, I thought, Oh, no, the abscess has grown! But I had the pictures reversed. The abscess had actually shrunk. The infection was too far gone to save the tooth (it was already dead), but I don't have to take the antibiotic. Mind you, though, if the area swelled or hurt I would have taken the anti-biotic. I was pleased! I'm okay! I thank the Lord for helpful natural remedies! Administrators Gail Posted November 20, 2009 Author Administrators Posted November 20, 2009 Yes. He gave me what he called a partial root canal or "a little deeper than the cut and drain". But I've still had to book the appointment to have the job done entirely in January. Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted November 20, 2009 Members Posted November 20, 2009 Eww... at least if the root is dead you won't be in misery from the root canal when he does it! BTW, if I were you, I'd keep using the charcoal and oregano oil until the root canal is done... Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. GreatLakesGramma Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 BTW, if I were you, I'd keep using the charcoal and oregano oil until the root canal is done... I agree. Members phkrause Posted November 21, 2009 Members Posted November 21, 2009 Just a little Gail, but isn't this one of the problems, running out of health insurance, that people are saying is going to happen with the new healthcare system, that's not happening right now? And the new healthcare is not even here yet. I was listening to Bill interviewing SP and it seem both were not very critical of what BO is trying to do with the healthcare, they seem to have problems with some features of it. Anyway pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted November 21, 2009 Moderators Posted November 21, 2009 My overall feeling is that there is not such thing as good dental insurance. For family reasons, we have dental insurance on my wife and our son. eachyear we pay more than we get back. I do not have dental insurance on myself. In part, that is becaseu I get some totally free dental care. But, I Beleive that IF I was paying for all of my dental care, I would pay more to the insurance company than I would get back from them. I just had a tooth pulled at no cost to me. I checked and I would have paid more to the dental insurance company that they would have paid for my dental care. On this tooth, I would have paid a co-pay for the endodontist and the dental surgon. Those co-pays plus my monthly premimumn would have exceeded what the insurance company would have paid me. Unless you have a chronic illness or children that are always seriously sick the same holds true for health insurance. GreatLakesGramma Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 That's because with insurance, the healthy pay the bills of the sick. Exactly the reason the government wants to force everyone to buy insurance. It's the only way to pay the way for people currently being refused coverage by insurance companies.
