Aging parents: 10 things to know for an emergency

My mother is not terminally ill... She is almost 98 and doesn't want to live, She stays in bed almost all of the time. We contacted Hospice upon the urging of some of our friends who worked there. They assured us that they had a program that she would qualify for and has been with them for about eight months. I am just worried that it is becoming increasingly difficult for her to get out of bed to go down the hall to the bathroom.I help her get out of bed whenever she lets me know that she wants to get up but when she can't do that I am afraid that she may have to go to an assisted living home which is almost as expensive as full nursing.

If she wasn't terminally ill you are fortunate to have had hospice .

My mother had cancer and we could not get hospice initially.

The nursing home would be taken care of if she lacks the asessts to do so. We have assisted living here that is relatively inexpensive, not sure what other states have

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this.

My father was in an assisted living facility near us and the bills were paid privately, but when it was necessary for him to be moved to the nursing wing, we managed to get him on medicaid.

The nursing facility recommended a person who helped us get that done. If you want more info, pm me.
