I wouldn't want to get that close to deer because they can carry deer lice and deer mites which carry disease fatal to humans.

I have some deer coming into my yard almost every night, feasting on my roses. Thankfully I don't see them, or I would shush them away.

I have some deer coming into my yard almost every night, feasting on my roses. Thankfully I don't see them, or I would shush them away.

The video was taken in Texas at these peoples' home. The deer are obviously used to eating there.

I have never heard of any kind of lice or mite, that is fatal to humans. Dogs can get deer ticks, which can carry lyme disease. Any tick can carry lyme disease though, but you are more likely to get a tick from walking in your yard or in the woods, than you are from any animal. Do you shoo away all dogs, and stay in the house, away from nature?

Physical contact [with the tick] is the only method of transportation for ticks. Ticks do not jump or fly, although they may drop from their perch and fall onto a host.

Lyme disease, or borreliosis, is an emerging infectious disease caused by at least three species of bacteria belonging to the genus Borrelia. Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato is the main cause of Lyme disease in the United States.

Lyme disease is the most common tick-borne disease in the Northern Hemisphere. Borrelia is transmitted to humans by the bite of infected ticks belonging to a few species of the genus Ixodes ("hard ticks").

Early symptoms may include fever, headache, fatigue, depression, and a characteristic circular skin rash called erythema migrans.

Left untreated, later symptoms may involve the joints, heart, and central nervous system. In most cases, the infection and its symptoms are eliminated by antibiotics, especially if the illness is treated early. Late, delayed, or inadequate treatment can lead to the more serious symptoms, which can be disabling and difficult to treat. Occasionally, symptoms such as arthritis persist after the infection has been eliminated by antibiotics, prompting suggestions that Borrelia causes autoimmunit.

Ticks can also cause Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. I know. I had it. And it can be a fatal disease.

That's true, they can. But I have pulled many a tick off myself, and never have gotten the fever. (knock on wood) I used to get them every day when I surveyed land. Now I get a few every summer from walking in the woods.

You have to be careful when pulling off a tick because if the head is left in, it can still cause illness. When they took the tick off of me, the physician used a hot forcep to make the tick back out of the skin.

My dad used to use a lit cigarette. He would touch it to the tick's butt, and he would back out. I just yank them out, and so far I've never had ones head come off in me. If it does, you can always dig it out with a knife.

Yeah I've heard that a hot instrument will do the trick. Also I believe someone told me that you can use vasoline, but I tried that and it didn't work.

Being a country boy from way back, getting ticks was usually from walking in the woods and at the time I had the experience of picking one up, disease was a secondary consideration to infection at the point of contact. My Dad, being a smoker, knew to place a lit cigarette close to the behind of the tick, to get them to back out.

The closest we get to deer now is when looking out the window and they walk through our yard. We enjoy their beauty as a beast but find them very homely when they squat to leave their calling card, which seems to be part of the reason why they use our yard.

Maybe its' their effort to convey the fact that they were here first and who are we to tell them what they can and casnnot do.

The subsequent comment about ticks giving disease tells us how much different life is today as compared to just a half century ago. And that statement makes me feel very old and ready for this____,

"The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them." Isaiah 11:6 KJV

And I don't think ticks are going to be a problem then.
