Moderators Nan Posted January 8, 2010 Moderators Posted January 8, 2010 This is totally trivial - unless you are the subject, but I want to know HOW? Melbourne Zoo has a pregnant elephant about to give birth. The local press has been anxiously awaiting the event for days. Today I read that the mother to be has been kept fit through her 22 month pregnancy with a "strenuous but fun" routine of aerobics and yoga. HOW DO YOU GET AN ELEPHANT TO DO YOGA??? Quote

It is not easy.As one that thought pregnancy was a terminal illness that did not end your life and ended up almost 200 lbs from 112,really tough to do. I had great sympathy for elephants and beached whales Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Liz Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 That's so funny!! Could you imagine that elephant in the Lotus position? How do you get it to do aerobics, those are bouncy moves, and elephants don't bounce. Quote For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Can't imagine this in my head Nan. But if I could and think it would be quite a crazy site that's for sure. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Neil D Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 This is totally trivial - unless you are the subject, but I want to know HOW? [snip] HOW DO YOU GET AN ELEPHANT TO DO YOGA??? Well, it's rather simple, don'tcha think? The elephant sits down and crosses his/her legs and says, "Hummmmmm"...... Ok, having said that, I will move on to bother someone else....or rather run to get my asbestos underwear...... Moderators Nan Posted January 9, 2010 Author Moderators Posted January 9, 2010 Well SM, instead of just tantalising us with your expertise, can you share a trade secret or 3 and let us know how it is done? You just never know when it might come in handy. On a (very) vaguely related topic, many years ago I was in family practice in New Zealand. I looked out the window to the car park one afternoon and saw a (normally coloured not pink) elephant tethered there. The handler had come to the office to get treatment for monkey bite, a circus had set up across the road from the office. It is the first and last time I saw an elephant from my office window. Quote

Neil D Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Really!? you can teach an elephant to do yoga? Does it make them relax? You know how when people get all up tight and if they are on a trip, they will forget something...Well, in this case, using the elephant yoga techniques, the elephant never forgets his trunk..... Ever see an elephant without a trunk? Proves it works... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw

SivartM Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Well, it takes years of training to teach yoga to elephants, but basically, you put the elephant in a large pool of water (to help them float a little and make them more flexible). Then you put a peanut on the end of a 20-foot-long pole and hold it up above the elephant's head. It will stretch up its whole body and put it's trunk all the way out. And that is the I-Want-Yumyum position. You hold the elephant there for 30 seconds, and then you move the pole to make the elephant move into other positions. It's really rather simple once you get the hang of it. I wouldn't suggest trying this with your elephant at home, though. There's probably an elephant yoga class nearby you can take your elephant to, which would be much safer. Also, I would recommend trying to find a Christian elephant yoga class, so you don't have to worry about your elephant being exposed to eastern mysticism and such. They'll never forget it...
