Some abortion opponents finally "get it right"

In a very interesting news article in today's NYTimes, the fact that there are some abortion opponents who have sound Biblical principles which preclude murder reveals itself within their community:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/11/us/11roeder.html?ref=todayspaper

The following words are quite poignant since they reveal an understanding of the fine differences between abortion and murder:

“This trial isn’t meaningful for the movement,” Mr. Newman said last week. “What happened is antithetical to the Christian cause and to the stated foundation principles of pro-life.”

I feel relieved that there are at least a few pro-abortionists who don't feel it's justified to murder doctors just because they do abortions and still feel comfortable wearing the cloak of Christianity.

Absolutely, Alex

Two wrongs don't make a right. Murder of abortionists is along the lines of vigilante "justice."

You won't find ANY pro-abortionists who feel it is justified to murder doctors under any circumstance. Nor do I think you will find many pro-lifers who feel it is justified to murder doctors.

Excellent article Alex. Thanks for the post.

The title of this thread is misleading - along the lines of the famously misleading question, "When did you stop beating your wife?"

Well over ninety-nine percent of anti-abortion advocates have always had it right. They are not in favor of violence to combat abortion.

Education - yes. Violence - no.

If what you say is true, then what do you make of this statement which was right below the one I originally quoted?

"But for a contingent of abortion opponents — those who argue that the killing of an abortion doctor can be considered justified by the abortions it prevents — Mr. Roeder’s case has become a rallying point."

There ARE some abortion opponents who consider killing a doctor as justifiable homicide. I think they're sick. To use a murderer as a rallying point is sick.

Now that is pretty sick if you ask me. And I for one believe that alot of pro-lifers are willing to kill doctors that do abortions, but they just don't have the bxxxs to do it, if they did we'd :<img src='http://clubadventist.com/forums/uploads/default_wee.gif' alt='wee'>: lots more killings and they would believe that 2 wrongs does make a right. I think that is sad that people want to have everyone be exactly that them.

By far the greatest majority of pro-lifers have never believed that killing abortion doctors is justified. So the title of this thread is seriously in error. But of course, the fact that an anti-abortion radical killed an abortion doctor has been seized upon by pro-abortionists to use against ALL pro-lifers.

That is a pretty inflammatory statement. I would like to see a list of professed Christians that promote murdering abortion doctors.

This only proves there is a whacko/faker with murderous intentions in every crowd pretending to be something else.

Its the exact same analogy concerning the tares in the church that give Christianity a bad rap.So instead of applying weedkiller to them, lets apply the fertilizer of the living, powerful, Word of God!

What I meant to say was "anti-abortionists". Doesn't make sense for pro-abortionists to kill doctors who support their beliefs?

I was just reflecting the comments put forth in the NYTimes article I linked to in my 1st post. As for myself, I have no friends who are of this persuasion (fanatical anti-abortionists)

I didn't feel inflamed. I have been on this forum long enough to see the reactions various people have to various statements and if we want to play well with others we will want to avoid making inflammatory statements. Stan has requested numerous times that we keep politics out of townhall.

I don't see this as being political, but my opinion doesn't count here.

one of them. :)

but im working on loving right now. sometimes it seems i have to blow, so to speak, to get a breakthru. im not wording this very well...for me, it is learning how to love the abusers while they are abusing. but oh the struggle between wanting to be dealt with on an honest level, and surrendering oneself to think like Jesus, forgive them Father, for they know not what they do.

what would it be like to be like Jesus?

Yes. The illusive definition of "political". I have indeed requested a working definition. But, instead it is left to the opinion of the local moderators.

However ... if the moderator feels something belongs in his territory ... I would hope he would send a PM to the new member and request such. And if he brought along a working definition of what that mystery word "political" means ... that would be all the better.

Until then ... we have confusion and moderators feeling 'inflammed'.

May we be one so that the world may be won.

Who moderates the Political Forum?

I loosely moderate the political forum. I have a helper but he rarely comes around. The purpose for the forum is for the free exchange of ideas so there is very little moderating that is done. Exceptions are when members start sending me private messages complaining about other members, then action is normally taken but that doesn't happen too often. We haven't had any ugly fights in that forum for a few months now.

It is not like the 12 Step forum that is heavily moderated. The purpose of that forum is to help suffering people and not provide an arena for people to fight and argue with each other.

Two different forums with two vastly different ways of moderating.

Great minds think alike. I always invite people to join the political forum via PM when I see they are discussing politics in other forums. What is politics? Well, if we hear politicians talking about an issue, that issue is nearly always something political. If it is part of one of the two major political party platforms, then it is political. Abortion, is part of both major political parties platforms. Clearly that makes it a political issue.

Of course, it is also a theological issue so making a post about abortion in one of our theological forums would also be appropriate.
