___to teach those who don't know Him that He is God and He isn't the one who took down Haiti, as this news clip indicates.

Foreign Policy's Annie Lowrey voiced concerns for U.N. staff in Haiti:

Haiti just can’t catch a break. For nearly five years, the small island nation has made slow but steady progress toward economic development and political stability. But it seems that just as the country is poised to turn a corner, an act of God, like yesterday’s devastating earthquake, sends Haiti reeling back.

"I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep."John 10:9-11 KJV

" “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”

Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”

Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?"

John 14:7-9 NKJV

Just as the Father gets all the blame for tragedy, so is the position of His followers. And as the end approaches, all the more so.

Even so, come Lord Jesus.

I don't like the phrase "act of God" referring to disasters. God burned up this, God destroyed that. Nobody ever calls it an "act of God" when God does something good!

People don't like discussing Satan. Thus they call it an act of God.

May we be one so that the world may be won.

They say they don't believe in God... but blame stuff on him. That's sort of... contradictory.

could it also be, because as soon as one of these disasters happens, Christian commentators are out there stating that it is a judgement from God and giving reasons why?

The secular media are just taking their cue from the Christians.

I've noticed that too!

If Haiti is an act of God ... should we be there helping those whom God hath "cursed"?

Did God tell us to help the Righteous poor only? Or did He tell us to help ALL who are poor?

May we be one so that the world may be won.

Abraham tried "saving" Sodom and Gomorrah(sp?) because some of his family was living there. Aren't we all family, poor or otherwise?

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

This is clearly a teaching moment and when celebrity Christians such as Pat Robertson makes his statement that this event is a direct result of the people of Haiti making a pact with the Devil, where are the voices of other well-known Christians to speak on God's behalf?

If there is one big question that all of us want answered, it is : "why do bad things happen to good people?" This is probably the central theme of the book of Job. Faith prevails, Job is triumphant and God comes out on top. But the question still remains - why? Is it simply a result of God making a wager with Satan? or must we simply simply resign ourselves to the inscrutability of God and accept things for what they are?

This is "the need"; to vindicate God before His creation. Satan has done a very capable job of doing the opposite.

As evidenced by the reaction below. I imagine few posters on this forum feel they have the wherewithal or the energy necessary to solve the Haitian crisis.

"Earlier, she said, one woman had run through Jacmel's streets screaming, "God, we know you can kill us! We know you're strongest! You don't need to show us!"

However none are incapable of doing some small thing where they are, if only prayer to a loving Sovereign God to increase the strength of those with greater capacity, for reaching out to those with nothing left to hang onto except Jesus' servants willing to inconvenience themselves for this present time, making it clear it is in Jesus' name and for the sake of His children.

"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Matthew 25:40 KJV

"But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?"Matthew 5:44-46 NKJV
