The population of Haiti is about 3.5 percent Adventist. It is amazing that more SDA's were not killed. The body count in Haiti was 70K and rising a couple of days ago. 3.5% of 70K is around 2,400, not 522.

While 522 dead is an absolutely tragic loss for the church in Haiti, it is not nearly as bad as I would have expected based on the numbers.

i dont quite get the logic here.

if we applied the percentages of other denominations and the deaths of those would the percentages match?

i mean if 5% of haitians were baptist, would we expect about 5% of the dead to be baptist? :)

Can you imagine any city such as LA or NY that has 55 SDA churches? Perhaps I'm ignorant and they do have that many churches. ??? Anyone know how many SDA churches are in LA ?

The official body count for Haiti is now over 150K.

3.5% of that is 5,000. This is the number of Adventists we could expect dead. I'll take 522 or even twice that many rather than 5K.

The nation of Haiti had over 300,000 SDA members.

There are 18 Adventist churches and two preK-12 Adventist schools within 30 miles of my home here in South Texas - not counting the ones in Mexico. Latin America has a lot more Adventist churches than North America does.

ADRA is working hard down there and need our support.
