SivartM Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Quote: NASA's plans to return astronauts to the moon are dead. So are the rockets being designed to take them there — that is, if President Barack Obama gets his way. When the White House releases his budget proposal Monday, there will be no money for the Constellation program that was supposed to return humans to the moon by 2020. The troubled and expensive Ares I rocket that was to replace the space shuttle to ferry humans to space will be gone, along with money for its bigger brother, the Ares V cargo rocket that was to launch the fuel and supplies needed to take humans back to the moon. There will be no lunar landers, no moon bases, no Constellation program at all. Woody Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 This is a shame. The money went instead to the big bank bonuses that Obama bankrolled. (Excuse the alliterations) Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted January 27, 2010 Members Posted January 27, 2010 I didn't see any value in sending astronauts back to the moon anyway. It's not like it's a rental property or something. The money went instead to the big bank bonuses that Obama bankrolled. Yeah, and who got the money? It sure wasn't the consumers. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Woody Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Actually ... I think they did have plans to rent the moon for research purposes !! Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Guest Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 They got no business up there drinkin' Tang and eatin' food sticks anyway. Anybody remember the food sticks? Quote

(Excuse the alliterations) I was gonna comment but than we'd have another political thread. But you need to check your facts about who bank rolled the banks. But I would sugests you should start another thread, if you are going to bash the President. Now to get to what Sivart posted, personally I think that the space stuff is a waste of money anyway. There is nothing there for us. Besides it kind of always reminded me of the tower of Babel! Just my 2 cents worth. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Woody Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 On the news today pk ... they indicated that actually Obama diverted the Space Program dollars to Global Warming Research. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Members phkrause Posted January 28, 2010 Members Posted January 28, 2010 Actually I think that that is money better spent. I don't believe all the things about Global Warming per se, I might have a better liking to the Changing of the weather patterns, or whatever they call it these days. It is definitely a problem. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Dottie Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I have heard that the space program, although apparently only an exciting trip for the astronauts, actually did all of us some good. There are a lot of things that we use in everyday life that have been made possible as a result of the exploration of space. http://spaceplace.jpl.nasa.gov/en/kids/spinoffs2.shtml Quote
SivartM Posted January 29, 2010 Author Posted January 29, 2010 Great list, Dottie! Anyone still think getting rid of the space program is a good idea?
