bonnie Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 That song took me back almost to many years to count. My cousin and I played that for church many times. My accordion and her on the piano. Dottie Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Bonnie - - You played the accordion? So did I, but it has been at least twenty years since I've even touched mine. I used to play at MV meetings, and in an accordion band when I was in my early teens. Quote

I used to play at MV meetings, and in an accordion band when I was in my early teens. I hate to tell you how many years since I have played. Lost it in a tornado in 1965.Had babies then and a mess so that was a low priority. I took lessons for 8 years. My mother had my name put on in rhinestones and I was really proud of it. I played a lot with my cousin at MV meetings. We had MV every Fri nite so it did get quite a work out. Listening to "Whispering Hope" reminded me how much I actually miss it Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Moderators LynnDel Posted February 1, 2010 Moderators Posted February 1, 2010 Thanks for sharing that, Pam. After listening to it, I saw there are quite a few other songs on Youtube by this man and his leaflute. LD Quote LD
Guest Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I've never seen anyone play a leaf that well. Bonnie, maybe you should get another Accordion. Quote
aldona Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Very nice. Playing a tune on a leaf is a common occurrence in parts of Australia - certain kinds of eucalyptus leaves are said to be an ideal shape and texture. (And they smell nice too, and probably leave your breath fresh!) "Whispering Hope" is a song I like - I'm currently working on a "theme and variations" version of it for my alto flute and piano. (or I would be, if work and other stuff didn't keep getting in the way). To all the "used to be" musicians - please, take it up again! It is completely different as an adult, much more fun, and it is good for your brain. Someone recently estimated that in Australia (population about 20 million) there are at least 5 million people who, when surveyed, say they "used to play music." That's 1 in 4. All that hidden talent being buried out there! aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music? Moderators Nan Posted February 1, 2010 Moderators Posted February 1, 2010 There is one not being wasted, all my children had piano lessons and there did not seem to be any long lasting effect, but the youngest now plays bass guitar in his church. And recently purchased a double bass (a modified version). Same child used to be able to play the recorder through his nose.....but that probably is not worth remembering Years ago I had a friend who could produce a very pleasant noise stroking a carpenter's saw with a violin bow....I guess there are all sorts of musical possibilities but alas, that is one talent that passed me right by. I did enjoy the leaf - camellia isn't it - playing that wonderful old song. Thank you for posting it. Quote
GreatLakesGramma Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 A friend of ours used to play the saw. I don't know if he still does. He moved to another state. He played special music with it for church now and then. He was very good. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26.
