Doug Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I have to give a 2 minute presentation on Veterans in Popular culture, I need to finish it by Sunday. anyone have any ideas? Quote
Amelia Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Left it til kinda late didn't you? And which veterans, are you referring to? WW2, Korea, Viet Nam, Desert Storm, Gulf....? And I'm not sure what you mean by "in popular culture"? I guess you could talk about all the self proclaimed veterans who stand on street corners begging for money. Or our newest veterans coming home with physical dammage and no jobs. Dr. Shane Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Are you a veteran? I am a veteran but not a combat veteran. One could give a brief history of veterans. Give a brief history of the draft - when it started and when it ended. Explain that today's military is a completely volunteer Army. Give a little history of the GI Bill and enlistment bonuses used as incentives for people to enlist. Give a little history of the role of women in the military. Touch on Veteran organizations like the VFW and American Legion and how they are active in the community. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted January 31, 2010 Members Posted January 31, 2010 I think Amelia's idea of our newest veteran's coming home to no jobs is a good topic. In most every other time they have fought, they have been able to come back home and find a job. In today's economy, there just isn't enough jobs to go around. "Popular culture" is a strange term to use with veterans. Popular culture doesn't like the military, so veterans have that prevailing against them too. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Dottie Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 What about veterans who are movie stars? Or singers, etc.) Quote
Members phkrause Posted January 31, 2010 Members Posted January 31, 2010 Hopefully he has done his homework otherwise all this stuff like Amelia mentioned is to late. Doug you should've asked a few weeks ago. And Shane had some really great ideas for you. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
