Recession? What recession?

So, it seems that this "global recession has not impacted negatively on everyone.

Check this out!

It's a Mercedes Benz owned by an Abu Dhabi

oil billionaire (naturally).

Featuring the newly developed V10 quad turbo with 1,600 horsepower and 2800nm of torque

0-100km/h in less than 2secs, 1/4 mile in 6.89 secs running on biofuel.

That is NOT stainless steel, people, it is WHITE GOLD! I'm sure you'll sleep better tonight, knowing that the

exorbitant dollars you're paying for gas these days are at least going to a good cause...

I would hate to pay the insurance on that.

It reportedly cost over $5 million. If anything can emphasize moral bankruptcy better than this, you're going to have show me.

This kind of conspicuous consumption (as well as the lavish jets and opulent palaces of these oil tycoons) is a flying middle finger to the millions of muslims living in abject poverty throughout the world. And no amount of explaining is going to make this Abu Dhabi mercedes make sense to anyone other than another billionaire.

I was going to buy a 'vette a couple of years ago. Had it all rationalized out. I was going to get a ten-year-old, well maintained one for about $12K. They actually get about twenty-five miles to the gallon highway if you don't drive them hard. Once they get down around $10K they don't depreciate any further if you keep them nice. So it was financially a good deal and I could look cool besides.

Then I realized I don't have the opportunity to explain all that to most of the people who see me in my car.

So I got the puddle jumper.

I think I'll just park them out front.

If your conscience is clear between you and God, why do you care to explain to people? I might understand if you are thinking

about a brand new 'Vette that cost $50-60k. My brother has been buying used high end cars with great success. Years ago he bought

a MB 300 C turbocharged diesel with only 19k miles on it for very cheap. It was owned by a widow and it had been sitting in her garage

for years. He also got a Cadillac with low mileage also for a very reasonable price.

People who can afford to pay that much for a car wouldn't be thinking about the peanuts insurance.

WELL I GUESS IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY FOR THIS

BUT I DONT

dgrimm60

I sure don't have the money, but I thought all of you would be interested in seeing what this car looked like!

Personally, if I had the money, I'd go out and buy a Corvette Stingray...always wanted one of those. But I know I'll never get one. Had a boyfriend who had one once, though. Fun to ride in. But I'm thinking I'm going to have to keep my Scion tC for awhile since it's paid for and I can't afford any car payments!

Wouldn't it be funny to see the owner of this car, get in it, and then proceed to drive it off, but it does that jump-stop, jump-stop all the way down the street, 'cause he doesn't know how to drive it?

Doug Batchelor explained it this way: He got a used Lexus, I think, for cheap. One of the people he was working with was oohing and ahhing over all the creature comforts and what a cool car it was and how could he afford it on a preacher's salary? He realized that his sphere of influence extended to far more people than this one guy he was able to explain it to.

He traded it in on a Subaru.

Our lives are a testimony. Most of what we say, we say without words.

Isn't it interesting the standards we hold to pastors vs ourselves?

I think you have made a good point Amelia. I believe that we should buy what we can afford, and of course not to show off.

It's always funny to see a picture of a luxury automobile posted on the forum and seeing the comments as various brethren and sisters ponder how nice it would be to drive one of those.

It's also quite a sight to see when a young church member gets a fancy set of wheels and then all of the young guys cluster around it after church, going "ooh" and "aah" over all the nice shiny bits and the interesting stuff under the hood.

But just let a sister appear with a $2 piece of gold-painted plastic jewelry, and just wait for all the admonitions about "ornamentation" and "extravagance" and "vanity" and "pride" etc.

But then, the Bible and Mrs White never said anything specifically against luxury cars, so it must be OK...

Context buddy don't forget to put that in context!!

Actually it was probably a luxury to have a bicycle in her day or when she wrote that?
