Woody Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Yesterday I had a visit with a specialist. He seemed to specialize in texting . I was shocked. During my brief time with him ... he seemed to have his mind on everything except for me. The first concern was that he got a text on his private phone. He then started texting a response while I waited for him to finish his sentence. Later he got a phone call on the same phone and started talking to them. Eventually he left the room to finish the call. Meanwhile leaving me hanging. I didn't feel it was very respectful. It for sure did not provide me with much confidence in him. What do you think? Is this appropriate? I just didn't feel he had his focus on me. For these reasons and more. Oh well ... I guess I am stuck with him. He told me that he is the best person in the entire country and that I couldn't find anyone better. He also told me that if I did find someone better ... he wanted their name. Folks. You may find this unbelieveable. I did also. But I have proof. I brought my pastor along with me. And I asked her if she felt he was actually serious. She indicated that she felt he was. And a pastor would not lie. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

First off I don't think this is appropriate, second did you pastor think he was a serious danger to himself or that he was serious about his commitment to his patient, which at that moment happen to be you? pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Woody Posted February 20, 2010 Author Posted February 20, 2010 Hi pk. I was referring to his comment regarding himself as being the best doctor in the country to work on me. I asked my pastor if she felt he was actually serious about thinking he was the best doctor in the country. She said ... yes he was serious. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Oh, I think he is serious in his own mind! pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Outta Here Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Sometimes it's better to go to the second or third best doctor around. Oftentimes the "best" doctor is too busy to give undivided attention to her patients. If you don't require undivided, individualized attention, however, stick with the best. It's really a matter of personal preference. Quote
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted February 20, 2010 Members Posted February 20, 2010 I think I'd check up on this doctor at your State Board of Medicine and see if there have been any complaints lodged against him. The behavior you described was inexcusable. And he seems to have a very high opinion of himself. Look up references to articles that he has written (go to PubMed online and check for his name)...if he's the best for your situation, then he's written journal articles about it. How did you happen to go in to see this particular doctor in the first place? p.s. And why are you "stuck" with him? Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Neil D Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 It seems to me that second best doctor in the country tries harder to be #1..... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
Woody Posted February 20, 2010 Author Posted February 20, 2010 Perhaps Neil. I might add one more thing. It may have been a cultural thing. His name is Abbas. He came here from Jordan. I don't mean to criticize the Jordanians. I honestly don't know them. But I was just wondering if there is a cultural factor at work? Does anyone know? GreatLakesGramma Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Redwood, I think you need to find a different doctor. I would not be going back to any doctor that did that to me. Woody Posted February 20, 2010 Author Posted February 20, 2010 Redwood, I think you need to find a different doctor. I would not be going back to any doctor that did that to me. Problem is ... there are no other specialists like him in this area and certainly none that think as highly of themselves. After all ... he IS the BEST ... so how can I go elsewhere? I will do as you have suggested. To answer your question ... another specialist referred me to the Jordanian. And apparently he is the only one anywhere nearby. As it is ... I have to travel 45 minutes to get to him and this causes me great pain. For sure ... I could not travel further. Thus ... I am 'stuck' with him. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. GreatLakesGramma Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Maybe you need to go farther afield to find a good one. His opinion of himself means very little. He could just be egotistical. If he pays no attention to you while you're in the examining room, how do you expect him to do anything to help you? Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. I just don't know how it could be possible to go anywhere else. And Pam ... I came up empty with the publication search. Perhaps he is not as great as he claims? Hmmm. I dunno. Moderators Gerr Posted February 21, 2010 Moderators Posted February 21, 2010 I can't believe a doctor did that to you! Outrageous and unconscionable! And then top off the rudeness with self-serving egotism! Wow. Wow. It had to be a REAL emergency for me to be interrupted while I was with a patient. Unless you are in a little town that is miles away from other doctors, I definitely would not go back to him. And, yes, I wouldn't blame you if you filed a complaint against him. Quote
Woody Posted February 21, 2010 Author Posted February 21, 2010 Well ... I had been waiting to see how you would respond Gerry. Thank you. It is pretty amazing. I am hard of hearing. So, after the visit I asked Blanche "did you hear what I heard?". And yes, she confirmed it. I guess I can't complain though ... since I've already made more appointments with him. I will see if he is any better next time. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
