Woody Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 Like I say ... it was build in the late 1800s. I guess that's what you get !!! Hopefully we can sell it. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Jeannieb43 Posted February 25, 2010 Moderators Posted February 25, 2010 From your description, your church sounds like a fire trap. Yes! Isn't there some sort of city code requiring a certain level of safety for worshipers in public churches in your town?? In fact, I'm sure if your church applies for a permit to build an elevator in the church, there will probably be all sorts of building code requirements which will have to be met, incurring lots of rehabilitation of the property..... Oh dear. Quote Jeannie<br /><br /><br />...Change is inevitable; growth is optional....
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted February 25, 2010 Members Posted February 25, 2010 If the church building was built in the late 1800's it might qualify as a historic landmark, and maybe receive some funding to upgrade it for handicapped access. Something you might consider looking into. I know the first SDA church here in my city was built in 1910 and it is going to be put on the historic register (it's now the home of a Foursquare Church)... Okay- Why do we neglect the physically challenged? I don't think we neglect them willfully, btw. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
WayneV Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Woody, I hope the idea winds up being of help. Agape` Quote WayneV Just remember these words of warning, for they will come to pass all too soon: If you are ever flying through the desert and your canoe breaks down, remember that it takes three pancakes to lift the doghouse, because there ain't nary a bone in ice cream!

Oh dear. The church is a historic building. We have to get permission from practically the entire city to do ANY thing. They don't want major changes. They want the building preserved. So, they may not care that it is a fire trap. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
