Dr. Shane Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Well, the Senate Health-Care bill just passed the House of Representatives just two months after Scott Brown won Kennedy's old Senate seat. President Obama has certainly shown he can get Democrats to do what he wants them to. Perhaps a naked Rahm Emanuel chasing congressmen down in the showers at the congressional gym is what it took. President Clinton failed to do this. Maybe a naked George Stephanopoulos would have helped out. Too bad George W. Bush didn't push Social Security reform through like this. Welll, by spending like drunk in bawdy house - it looks as though the current Administration will have to start seriously raising taxes by all sorts of creative measures, beginning with the European Value Added Tax. rotsa ruck, America! Dr. Shane Posted March 23, 2010 Author Posted March 23, 2010 The original Senate bill was passed when Senator Ted Kennedy was still alive. That original bill is what the House of Representatives passed yesterday. After passing it, the House of Representatives passed a separate bill which will make changes to the original Senate bill. That separate bill is what is going to the Senate now. Rules were violated in this process. Normally this is how it works. The House of Representatives passes a bill. The Senate passes a bill. Then there is a conference committee which irons out the differences between the House bill and the Senate bill. The bill that comes out of the conference committee than goes back to each chamber to be voted on. In this instance, the House passed a health-care bill and then the Senate passed a health-care bill (while Senator Ted Kennedy was still alive). Ted Kennedy died before a conference committee could meet to iron out the differences. Scott Brown, a Republican, was elected to replace Kennedy. That meant that any health-care bill coming out of the conference committee would not be able to get Senate approval. So the Democratic leadership decided to skip the conference committee and take the Senate bill directly to the House and have them vote on that instead of a bill coming out of a conference committee. This was done because of the election of Scott Brown in the Senate. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
