Can I encourage everyone to PLEASE support, encourage, and pray for your literature evangelists, particularly your local worker.

Have you ever wondered what brings people into the SDA church?

A survey was done in Japan in Dec. '93 and reported by the Japanese SDA Lay People's Monthly.

Question: What brought you into the Adventist Church?

4326 people responded.

Results:

Thanks for this, KJ. We are having poor success with our literature outreach here in Arkansas (maybe Americans don't read as much as Japanese) but our friendship outreach and our little Christian school have been the two avenues that have been the most successful.

Our evangelistic series have been flops. People get worn out going to so many meetings over nearly a month. I'm trying to develop a series that will cover all of the major points in a long weekend. Then we can have followup seminars to fill in the blanks.

That's pretty interesting KJ, I would never have thought that at all. Will put this on my pray list. Thanks for the post.

And I bet the ones who came in through "Friends and Relatives" had the higher retention rates.

We are our worst enemy - sad but true.

I think you make a very good point Alex. Not only that, I find that many families that have family worship together also stay in the church.

I view myself as a sort of literature evangelist, too. I LOVE matching up good books with good homes!

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

I pray for all of them, but the Christian farmer who is pulling weeds out of his garden is also doing the Lord's work, and I pray for him too.

I think the problem of our evangelistic efforts flopping is mostly due to running ahead of God, not waiting for God to lead. Whenever we jump off the high place, analogically speaking, expecting the angels to catch us before we hit the ground, we are dead wrong. And I have seen this happen a lot.

It happens all the time. And so many will do their best to lay a guilt trip on you if you're not jumping too.
