olger Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I had you figured for a TC disciple, Belisle. I was right. "Normalize the abnormal, sanctify the perverse, and criminalize the resistant." Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Woody Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 That's better than being an OG disciple. :) Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
SivartM Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Is this the thread where we get to make off-topic statements degrading others? Can I join? I would like to believe that I am a disciple of Jesus Christ and in so doing I forgive you for your impolite presumption. I assume you were in jest? Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted March 29, 2010 Administrators Posted March 29, 2010 No, Ger is one of our happy heretic hunters... After helping chase off the heretics in his old forum the hunting got thin so he had to come over here to hunt... But he is mostly harmless since he ran out of ammo... Kountzer Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 I've noticed Tony Campolo from time to time on the 'net, on forums like this, etc. He's okay. He has interacted quite a bit with Adventists. He has some positive things to say about them in one of his books. I guess that matters somewhat. Quote I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted March 29, 2010 Administrators Posted March 29, 2010 Alex, Sorry for the derailment... This story deserves far better. I have heard and read this story of Tony Campolo a dozen times and it never fails to bring a tear to my eye. Several postscripts are in order. As Paul Harvey would say, "The rest of the story" is even more beautiful. Agnes in fact turned her life around. She and the diner owners started a ministry for the prostitutes and others down and out in Honolulu. And one day, she pulled off a payback surprise birthday party some years later for Tony at a speaking engagement he had that happened to be on his birthday. A young Adventist film maker named Rik Swartzwelder made an award winning short film about this story called the least of these. It was filmed at a diner near where I live and number of my friends were extras in it. You can get a copy of it here - http://www.bookschristian.com/artistprofiles.php?char=R&author=Rik+Swartzwelder Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." Dottie Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Tony Campolo has been around a very long time. I went to hear him when I was a teen and he had hair. He was great to listen to then as he is now. He makes some very good points. Quote
Administrators Gail Posted March 29, 2010 Administrators Posted March 29, 2010 Good attempt at recovery, boys! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
karl Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Do a study of sex in the Bible. After observing the multiple wives and concubines of the Patriarchs, 1,000 in the harem of Solomon, and stories of men offering their daughters to save themselves, one might conclude that the Bible is the last place you would want to go to find models of sexual behavior. In spite of the offensive content, the Bible is a lot more comfortable with human sexuality than later church history. Quote
