Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted April 12, 2010 Moderators Posted April 12, 2010 Eight years ago today, on April 11, 2002, the woman who posted under the name of Del Starr died after a battle with cancer. She was a woman raised in the heart of Adventism who embarked on a spiritual journey of many years. As she shared her journey here in Club Adventist she recieved spiritual help that she did not recieve anywhere else. At the same time, she suffered much from those who could not understand . . .. I spoke with her a few hours before she died. She died in the confident belief that the next thing she would see would be her friend--Jesus Christ, her Saviour. Club Adventist had a part in that. To Del's daughter who sometimes comes here: Your mother was respected by many. Whatever the spiritual journey may be that you may take in life, you do not walk alone. The same Lord that was with your mother walks beside you. Gregory Matthews I wonder: How many of you remember Del Starr? Quote Gregory

Moderators John317 Posted April 12, 2010 Moderators Posted April 12, 2010 That was a few years before my time here, but I'm very happy that she found help on the Forum and evidently made friends who made a real difference in her life. That makes the Forum truly worth while, doesn't it. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Moderators Kevin H Posted April 12, 2010 Moderators Posted April 12, 2010 I remember her well and miss her. She and I use to really get into it over the Investigative Judgment; but came to respect each other and agree to dissagree but still respect each other as believers (and she did come to say that my understanding of the Investigative Judgment is different from the ideas that she was rejecting and that my understanding did not sound as bad as her understanding of the doctrin was) and we were able to have some nice messages to each other setting our dissagreement over the Investigative Judgment aside and just encourage each other, especially durring the last few months. As John and Richard and I have our discussions (and granted John and Richard are more conservative than I am while Del Starr was more liberal; How times have changed, I remember when my views here were the conservative view) I cannot help but think of the discussions that she and I had and hope that while dissagreeing and wanting to give a strong defence of our views, I am hoping that it is with the same respect of each other that Del had. Whether we were in a heated argument over the Investigative Judgment, or encouraging each other and sharing hope of life beyond cancer and death, I really miss her. And John and Richard: I want to let you know that while we may dissagree on points, that I appreciate both of you. Quote
Moderators John317 Posted April 12, 2010 Moderators Posted April 12, 2010 Thanks very much, Kevin. I appreciate that. I know I speak for Richard when I say we both are glad you're here. Overaged Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 She was a woman raised in the heart of Adventism who embarked on a spiritual journey of many years. As she shared her journey here in Club Adventist she recieved spiritual help that she did not recieve anywhere else. At the same time, she suffered much from those who could not understand . . .. I wonder: How many of you remember Del Starr? Once I found out her whole story; after she had died, I was very sorry for being so hard on her; however, I console myself with the fact that yes, it's true. Club Adventist played a major role in drawing Del to Jesus Christ, and the same Lord that helped her in her journey is also still working with me; and Oh boy does He have His work cut out for Him. Although I wonder how certain of you can stand me and all my growling; I do see glimmers of light, and Hope in Christ. I don't see one case where efforts are not ocurring to be on more friendly terms! There's a reason this forum has been around for so long. People do connect with Jesus and with other people that can help them in this connection. I would urge those who are not currently paid up members, and who can afford to do so to start paying the five bucks a month. it's such a small price to pay for the benefits received AND given out! No matter what anyone said to Del; she still ended every post with "Jesus Is Enough." If Club Adventist does this kind of thing for people, why not support that? (sorry if I'm out of line Stan. I didn't mean to make this an advertisment). Quote "People [rarely] see...the bright light which is in the clouds..." (Job 37:21)"I cannot know why suddenly the stormshould rage so fiercely round me in it's wrathBut this I know: God watches all my pathAnd I can trust""God helps us to draw strength from the storm" - OveragedFaith makes things possible; it does not make them easy, Steps To Christ
SivartM Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Obviously I don't remember her (I was only 9 when she died, and therefore not a member here), but it sounds like she was a nice person. :( Quote "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much." - Oscar WildeDo to others whatever you would like them to do to you. She was. She made you think. She was passionet about her views yet would respect others and was someone you could discuss any topic with. And her central theam was that she loved Jesus and Jesus' love for us. Quote
