SivartM Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Are any Adventist schools participating in the Day of Silence this Friday? karl Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Are any Adventist schools participating in the Day of Silence this Friday? I'm contractually required to talk. Will we be shutting down CA? Quote
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted April 14, 2010 Members Posted April 14, 2010 C/A is not a school. I imagine kids will be texting a lot that day in school. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
SivartM Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 Hm... maybe they should make it "Day of Non-communication". :D Quote "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much." - Oscar WildeDo to others whatever you would like them to do to you. Members phkrause Posted April 14, 2010 Members Posted April 14, 2010 Are any Adventist schools participating in the Day of Silence this Friday? Not sure if they are or not, but the public school's will all be open. I think they are basically just trying to have no arguing, etc. At least that's what I got from the link. I think it sounds interesting. Maybe we could try that here at CA, but I doubt it would work. And I'm a very optimistic person. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
SivartM Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 It's when students refrain from speaking for a day to draw attention to the harassment and bullying of homosexual students. karl Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 It's when students refrain from speaking for a day to draw attention to the harassment and bullying of homosexual students. Can you get the teachers to refrain from speaking, also? Quote
SivartM Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 I'm sure many more students would participate if that were so. Moderators Bravus Posted April 14, 2010 Moderators Posted April 14, 2010 It'd certainly be an interesting challenge for a teacher to present an entire day's instruction without speaking. I reckon it'd be possible, with some creative use of whiteboards and technology. Gives me a fun idea for my teacher education class next week, actually! Quote Truth is important
SivartM Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 SIVARTM WELL that is interesting????when did this day start is it nation wide????? dgrimm60 According to the website, 1996. Yes, it's nationwide. 8,000 schools participated in 2008. Quote "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much." - Oscar WildeDo to others whatever you would like them to do to you. aldona Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 It's when students refrain from speaking for a day to draw attention to the harassment and bullying of homosexual students. If I wasn't at work I could quite easily do a day of silence. (Ever been to a doctor and he/she does not say a word throughout the consultation? It would just weird people out.) The idea of a day of silence really appeals to my inner Quaker (as does the cause that it represents). aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music? SivartM Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 I wish that there were separate Days of Silence for every oppressed group. Although, then we'd never talk again... It would be easier to participate in this if I wasn't 1. homeschooled, 2. taking an achievement test, and 3. going on a Pathfinder campout on Friday. I guess I'll have to wait till next year. :( Quote "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much." - Oscar WildeDo to others whatever you would like them to do to you. Amelia Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I wish it was a day of silence for everyone who is bullied and not just lgbt's. Who's going to not speak for them?
