Neil D Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Ok, the basic equation for weight loss is- Caloric intake must be less than caloric expenditure. How does one do that without feeling the pangs of hunger? Ideas and suggestions are wanted. Venting is allowed IF you publically decalare you're on a diet. [and not one of those "See-foods" diets...you KNOW what I am talkin' about!!) Is there a way just to feel sore from trying to grow muscle and not feel pangs of hunger? Or does one HAVE TO feel the pangs of hungar at bedtime? Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw

Moderators Gerr Posted April 20, 2010 Moderators Posted April 20, 2010 Right now, I am eating two meals a day and suffer no hunger pangs. This can be done by: 1. High fiber foods & complex carbohydrates - lots of vegetables, whole grains, seed vegetables, fruits. Avoid refined foods. 2. Eat SOME nuts. They do a good job of prolonging the sense of satiety and delaying hunger. 3. When you feel hungry and it's not time to eat, drink water - lots of it. I just finished a bowl of cereal - a mixture of oats, buckwheat groats, & millet, with raisins and banana and soy milk. I also had macadamia and cashew nuts, and mango. The first time we switched from 3 meals a day to two, yes, there were hunger pangs. But that's temporary. The stomach just needs to be re-educated. Quote
GreatLakesGramma Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Neil, no, you do not have to feel hunger pangs to lose weight. It's totally unnecessary. But you have to be willing to make some major, permanent changes in your diet and lifestyle. Most people aren't. The "experts" these days are putting down the idea of exercise for weight loss, but they are making a big mistake there, because people are not getting their meaning. Trying to burn off fat with aerobic or cardio exercise is the kind that isn't as much help as people always thought, but strength training is great for weight loss. The more muscle you build, the more calories you burn, even while you're sleeping. Plus, you get a lot smaller for the amount of weight you lose than you would by just shedding the weight without exercise. And you look a lot better with firm muscles instead of flab. Administrators Gail Posted April 20, 2010 Administrators Posted April 20, 2010 One thing that has helped me lately is a dietary supplement called Vega. It was recommended to me by someone in a Fuel store. One of these drinks for breakfast ties me over better than 2 bowls of cereal, and it contains all my vitamins, minerals, Omegas, fibre, chlorophyl and anti-oxidants for the day. Calorie-wise I think it's about 240 calories. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
karl Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 I already have loose weight. What I want to do is lose it. Thanks for the Zoelifestyle link, OldSailor. Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted April 20, 2010 Moderators Posted April 20, 2010 I've lost about 5 kilos (11 lbs or so) over the past couple of months. For me it was about just making better food choices: eating a little less but a lot better. I'd been having mid-afternoon candy several days a week and cut that out. I was tending to eat something fried or fatty for lunch as well as something sweet, and switched to just a sandwich. Heaps of water instead of (even diet) soft drinks. More sensible dinners, and most of all no snacking between meals. Gramma has it right on exercise - you don't do it directly to burn calories at the time, because you can't do enough, you do it to tone and because lean muscle mass cranks up your metabolism. But there's no substitute for lowering the intake side of that equation. Choosing food that's good and filling but has a low energy density is a big part of that, and as has been said, vegetables and complex carbs are key. Be aware the nuts and dried fruit are very energy dense. They're healthy in moderation, but if you snack on them a lot to stave off hunger they're also very capable of staving off weightloss. Moderators Gerr Posted April 21, 2010 Moderators Posted April 21, 2010 Losing wt without dietary change or exercise? There's got to be something different that you are doing!!! Taking speed? Something to prevent nutrient absorption? If eating the way you were eating and without exercise got your wt to where you were, why should doing the same thing now make you lose weight? Quote
Moderators LynnDel Posted April 21, 2010 Moderators Posted April 21, 2010 "Pangs" sounds like pain. Are you really experiencing pain? If you are just feeling hungry, learn to embrace the sensation, because that's when the pounds are melting off. Recognize the hunger, love it, and feed it water. Or maybe celery. LynnDel Quote LD

In mid December I simply started drinking a pint of Zoe Life every day. That's all. Everything else remained the same. No diet no exercise, just 16 oz. of Zoe Life every day. I'll tell you something about Zoe Life. It is a great tasting, all-natural, powdered drink mix that is made up of 20 real fruits and vegetables. Zoé Life is sweetened with Stevia, an all-natural, herbal sweetener, containing no artificial chemicals. Stevia has many health benefits and has been used for centuries. One serving of Zoé Life contains only 1 gram of naturally occurring sugar, no caffeine or other stimulants, no chemical preservatives, no high-fructose corn syrup, no artificial colors, no cholesterol, no fat, no sodium, is gluten-free and only 25 calories. It can be mixed with water, juice, or your favorite yogurt or smoothie. Zoé Life is a great source of the nutrients your diet may be lacking. Zoé Life is packed with pure antioxidants from whole food sources and is an outstanding way to begin each day. But the best thing about Zoe Life is, it works for me. I have lost 24 pounds in the last four months by drinking a pint of Zoe Life every day. It isn't for everybody, but I would highly recommend it to all who are overweight.
